Looking for a house under 100K. I'd like recommendations on areas that are nice to live in but my experience of the UK is very small, always lived in the same town before we moved abroad.

Must have.....
a garden even if just small
one or two bedrooms
not a flat/apartment
nice area
northern preferred as we have family there
Looking for something we can 'lock up and leave' for up to 6 months per year.

Bear in mind that places are usually this cheap for a reason. If you've been abroad you may not be used to thinking about the life on the other half of the UK. Aren't you asking your family for ideas?

Bits of Teesside - although you heed to be careful on area.
Houses are not designed to be locked up for long periods of time. Have you considered a static caravan, where there are people around to keep an eye on things, and are expected to be left unused for periods of time.

@withpeaceandlove

There's a 3 bedroom with a garden and loft space near me for 85k. We're in Leeds
That’s amazing. I do sometimes wonder whether to go north now before my DC start buying houses. I wonder if I could talk the older ones into it? It would make their lives so much easier .

If you'll be in and out the country, are you looking for somewhere near a major airport?

Sellandtravel · 16/03/2021 17:40

@YellowDaffidols I would consider a static but my DH is very tall and feels he needs a house after being in a camper on our travels.

@greyinganddecaying no need for airports as we intend on driving mostly.

Bishops Auckland
County Durham
Merseyside
Middlesborough
Stockton on Tees
These areas are all manageble for under 100k with the basic hosuing requirements you're after but probably best asking OP's from these areas if they are nice. We are wanting to buy but are not from up North so in the dark a bit! Would be interested to see what locals opinions of these areas are

In my corner of SW Scotland a 3 bed ex council with front and back gardens is about £80k. If you don’t mind doing work you’ll get one for about 65k-70k.

Nottinghamshire, North-East Derbyshire, parts of South Yorkshire all have houses under 100k.

I'm in the same position, thinking about buying a UK house from overseas as a base for visits. We used to stay with my DGma but she sadly died last year and my DSis inherited her flat so we've not got a base any more.

Trying to decide between somewhere not insanely expensive in the UK or maybe Ireland.

JackieTheFart · 29/03/2021 02:49

I’m currently looking in Liverpool, lots for up to 100k in my area.

Happy to PM the area if you like but would rather not pinpoint myself to a tiny vicinity!

JackieTheFart · 29/03/2021 02:50

Also my area is considered deprived but I genuinely love it. Close to everything, nice neighbours, good schools.

Aldilogue · 29/03/2021 03:51

The prices in UK in enviable. Here in Australia even in regional NSW the prices are ridiculous. We would have to spend upwards of $700,000 jus to get something that doesn't need loads of work.
Soul destroying really. I should have bought when I was younger but too late now.
