American presenting style

Am I the only person to shout at the telly ‘just get on with it!’ So much waffle before delivering a YouTube Facebook presentation or exercise session. I like the American accent itself, I just can’t stand the 5 minutes of hot air before delivering the actual goods.

I hate the way reporters do this weird stress thing when talking over footage

"THE PERPETRATOR was SEEN RUNNING aWAY from the SCENE beFORE being FOUND HIDING in an ALLEY"

Do you know what I mean?

My issue with American TV is not the presenters, it’s the ad breaks. They are constant, really long and they all happen at the same time so you can scroll through 100 channels and they’re all full of adverts for medication and insurance.

Porridgeoat · 15/03/2021 01:48

Omg yes! An advert every 30 seconds!

I also HATE and cannot bare to watch U.K. shows where they only have enough material for 20 minutes however they pad it out by recapping multiple times throughout the show to make it last closer to an hour.

Fortune that’s very true!

Also cannot stand You Tube films about a particular topic (say gardening or baking) where the presenter seems faux surprised that they are being filmed, so it starts something like "oh hello, [sounds surprised] just preparing this xyz" and then they waffle on about unrelated things for 5 mins before getting to the crux of the matter. I want to scream at the screen "but you are filming yourself you ninny, you can't pretend to be surprised by the presence of a camera or pretend to be behind schedule when presumably you are in control of when you start the filming" . Aaargh.

Maybe this is just me though Grin

Exactly!

Im quite a cheerful soul but sometimes I want to silence the irritatingly jolly voice overs

Yep @Porridgeoat

I also can't bear the 'I'm so excited to xyz......' and 'I'm just gonna jump right in.....'

Very often they don't just jump right in, but precede things with the aforementioned hot hair.

I say this as someone with many links to America, so not being American-ist, promise Smile

MrsTophamHat · 15/03/2021 17:59

"So, with that being said, let's jump right in"

This really grates with me as well. Strictly could be done in about 35 min if they stopped all the waffling and pointless training videos where they visit a zoo or a carpark to practise for no apparent reason.
Escape to the country usually has some wittering /pointless insert about the medieval practise of weaving goat hair (or similar).
Most things I watch on catch up and then you can fast forward the breaks and "padding "
