Chronic illness and retraining - any ideas or suggestions?

Hi everyone
My husband was diagnosed with a chronic illness a couple of years ago, and he also suffers from fatigue which he is seeking help for.

He has worked in social care for 20 years but can no longer do this job as even standing for long periods is too much for him. He resigned from his job last year because it was too exhausting and also because it seemed risky due to the pandemic and his health issues. Luckily we could live off my salary alone for a while, but not forever.

He has now had his first jab so could perhaps start looking for work again in the summer.

He should ideally do something desk based, but even though he has done lots of admin work in the past he has no formal training or qualifications for this.

What sort of course or training would be worthwhile? Just some basic admin college course? I have seen some that are part time and run a few months. Could he get a grant for any kind of education or retraining?
He would also be interested in stuff like sound or film editing and is very good at it, but has only done it as a hobby so no formal qualifications.

He is in his late 30s if that makes a difference.

What sort of social care?

Not sure if there is anything helpful here:

www.gov.uk/access-to-work

I have a chronic health condition and I know lots of people in my position work from home at least part of the time. The way I have done this is to start as office based while learning the ropes then gradually request working from home days when the employer trusts me. This has given me the confidence in interviews to request what I need and my skills/experience are at a level where I can do that so now have a good office/home balance which is essential for managing fatigue i.e. one day in the office, next day at home etc.

@MorePotatoSalad Thank you. The sort of arrangements you have would be ideal. Just struggling a bit how to get started, or how to find a job to begin with, whether it is worthwhile doing a course or anything.

He has done office based tasks for years, all sorts of assessments and planning for social care, but has no formal admin work qualifications. Ideally he would like to do something different anyway, or work for a sector other than social care.
