If you've paid your mortgage off how old were you when you did it and how?

Just daydreaming about being mortgage free. I've just turned 40 and would like to do it by the time I'm 50. It's doable but it would take a huge amount of budgeting. I think it would be worth it in the long term though. I think we'd have to over pay as much as we could each month.

How old were you?

35 - very cheap property - bought for £79K 20 years ago, I got an inheritance and paid it off. Moved in with boyfriend - now husband - and rented my house out.

My husband got a redundancy pay out and paid off his mortgage 5 years ago. We are in our early 50s. We moved a year ago and took out a £250K mortgage.

Both earning well, secure jobs, mortgage rates have never been lower.

I'm not sure payimg off your mortgage is the priority it used to be with interest rates so low. I'd be looking at investing to be honest.

It was nice to own a house outright - and getting the deeds back. But it doesn't feel much different in this house with a mortgage.
