Follow on email/call after hearing nothing from a job?

I applied for a role maybe three weeks ago and i've heard nothing back.

I must admit i'm quite disappointed as I thought I stood a decent chance at getting an interview as they requested a particular degree then three skills/work history that isn't linked to the degree at all.

It was a bloody long application form through the company's website so there's no email address for the hiring manager/who's actually doing the hiring. But there is a name on job description who would be the line manager for the role. Would it be strange if I emailed him directly? or has anyone got an advice on the best way to do it?

I've tried googling and it seems to be mainly advice for American's/sending a follow up email to the hiring manager?

Hmm. I haven't been in this situation for a while. I would be more likely to expect feedback if I'd been on an interview, so on the fence a bit. Contrasted with DH chased a job application in similar circumstances recently, and despite him delivering the application and CV by hand they had lost it! So maybe the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Nothing lost by it. :)

There's no harm in sending a polite email enquiring if the position has been filled and whether any feedback could be given on your application. They might ignore it but there's nothing lost by trying.
