Do painted kitchen doors and tiles ever look good?

Or do they always look a bit naff?

Currently trying to buy a house (I don't think there is actually a chance in hell of the mortgage being approved but it's nice to dream after years of renting mould infested shitholes) and it has a plain wood kitchen. Sort of a mid oak colour, probably put in about ten years ago, terracotta wall tiles.

I'd love to paint the kitchen units and tiles but I'm terrified it will look a bit crap or will start to peel. I've stopped looking at some of the horrors on DIY Facebook pages!

It's not an interim thing, we'll probably never be able to change the kitchen (and getting the house might just be a pipe dream), I just want to make something the way I want it after a lifetime of not even being able to put a nail in the wall!

@ineedaholidayandwine

Apologies, i didn't paint them myself, a company came to the house and sprayed them, great service, only took 2 days, day 1 to prime day 2 to paint
They look fantastic!!

Was it expensive to get someone in to do them?

@MaisyMary77

I painted both my old kitchen cupboards and tiles. It lasted and looked good for 5 years before we had our extension and new kitchen put in.
Bloody hell. It's amazing how it can transform the room.

I did this, painted my kitchen,,it looks awesome when first done and for about a year or two after,,but I’d not recommend it if you’re not going to be changing the kitchen in the next three to five years, because you’ll end up with a bigger mess on hour hands than you do now. It chips. And it looks messy when it does. And you can’t keep repainting it, or it chips more.

Honestly I’d say don’t do it if you’ve no intention of replacing the kitchen.

Agree that Frenchic is awesome. They have a few different ranges I'm positive they have a range suitable for kitchen units. Some even have primer built in so it's dead easy. Clean and sand first then it's a dream to use and fab finish. I've used it loads for furniture up cycling and the kitchen units are my next project but waiting until better weather.

Tiles no, doors perhaps depending on colour.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 12/03/2021 15:51

Bluntness that what worries me. If it was just for a couple of years but who knows. And it's not like it's a horrible grotty kitchen.

I'll have a look at french chic.

This is all just to distract me while we are waiting on the mortgage decision Wine

My cousin has just done hers and put the photos on Facebook.

It looks cheap. And terrible.

We had ours professionally done.. tried to do it myself managed about 3 doors and could not finish... actually I got bored Grin it cost about £1,400 which I know is a bit eek.. but I do love the finish.. now I need to sort out the tiles and floor!!

I’d get the stickers and get someone in to spray the kitchen

Look on frenchic furniture paint page on fb. The cupboards are transformed!

I personally don't like this look, doors or tiles. I also think wooden kitchens are making a return and it would be a mistake. Instead, I would invest in new tiles/splashback and worktops as well as lights, and possibly consider painting some units in a contrasting colour depending on the layout and size of the kitchen. Lots of ideas on Instagram and Pinterest.
