If you use reusable san-pro

Recently invested in some reusable pads after reading lots about them here. So far am on the fence and wondered what others think of them.

On one hand they are really comfy, environmentally friendly and I like knowing that I'll always have something in the cupboard rather than having to dash to the shop!

But I find that even the ones with wings tend to move about as they don't have the sticky bottom like disposables do. Also can't see how they'd work while you were out and about?! They are fine for home when they can be rinsed and chucked in the wash right away but how would you manage changes if you were at work or out of the house all day?

Going to persevere but just wondered what others thought?

I used period pants and a moon up. Love both would never go back

PinkPlantCase · 12/03/2021 18:51

The cotton ones don’t move around as much as the ones with a synthetic backing.

I’ve used them for years, just have a small wet bag in your hand bag. I also don’t rinse each one. I just put them on a rinse cycle in the washing machine before they go in the main wash.

I also only have black and grey ones cause it doesn’t matter so much if they stain

@40somethingJBJ

Like others, I just use the bag that came with mine - fold inwards, popper shut and zip into the bag until I get home. I’ve looked at the pants, but are they not a hassle to change if you’re out and need a clean pair? As in having to remove bottom clothes? Or do they last long enough to not need to?
They have different absorbancy options, some are the equivalent of 4-5 pads. Obviously if you have incredibly heavy periods and you knew you would be out all day you might need to explore options. I'm on the contraceptive injection so have very light ones, but I can see on the website they say they cater for heavy periods. A mooncup holds a lot too.

I wore the heavy ones for 9 hours on my heaviest day with no issues. Obviously everyone’s definition of a heavy day is different. I think Modibodi give you your money back after 30 days on one pair if you don’t like them.

underneaththeash · 12/03/2021 19:09

Wait til you get to 46 and have to use tampons and period pants - not fun!

I'd really recommend the mobibody too through, DD is only 9, but I can imagine it will make her teenage periods much easier too.

kittensarecute · 12/03/2021 19:19

I've been using reusable pads for over a year now. They are fantastic and I've saved a fortune! I will never go back to disposables.

Onedropbeat · 12/03/2021 19:34

My pads move about when wearing loose fitting undies

I also find that my massive bush sticks to them on heavy days

I have a little wet bag that I take out with me (left over from baby’s reusable nappy days)

I’d love to try a cup but ever since having babies I’ve not been near inside it with even a tampon

Tippytaps · 12/03/2021 20:03

Another vote for period pants here, they are life changing!

If I am out all day and on a heavy period day, then I also wear a cup, otherwise I just wear the pants and don’t think about it!

MrsHerculePoirot · 12/03/2021 20:13

I’m early forties - am I too late to be converted to this?!? What cups do you all use/recommend I’ve only heard of the mooncup brand...

Going to try some period pants, although I have the fear a bit 🤣

DaisyWaldron · 12/03/2021 22:44

I'm 45, and the Modibodi pants cope fine with my probably perimenopausal heavy bleeding. To put the absorbance in context, on a heavy day, I would have to change a mooncup every 2 hours, but I can get a full working day out of a pair of heavy absorbancy Modibodi pants, and longer for the 24 hour ones.

DaisyWaldron · 12/03/2021 22:45

The best thing is being able to sleep through the night without having to get up to change sanpro or flood the bed.

RingringQ · 12/03/2021 22:51

As others have said, they fold up with poppers.

But also, you don't need to rinse them! None of this soak them in a bucket nonsense one reads about, either. I just wash the lot at the end of my period - straight in the washing machine (unpop first), wash and tumble dry. They come out perfectly clean, barely a stain on them after five years. And they don't smell in the meantime - turns out it's disposable pads that create the smell. Blood on cloth just dries.

I feel like a lot of blogs and stuff make this out to be a huge faff that takes over your bathroom with precarious buckets of blood, but it really doesn't have to be.

williowrosenburg · 12/03/2021 23:00

I use pads by Wear Em Out.... they are fab. They sell different sizes/absorbency!

Gerla · 13/03/2021 10:06

I’m early forties - am I too late to be converted to this?!? definitely not too late! I started at 45 and the pants have been amazing as my periods have become really irregular - I can wear them on any day they might start and feel more relaxed at work.

Whatwouldscullydo · 13/03/2021 10:20

What ones did you get op

PUL backed ones can he a bit slippy but if you are wearing 9/10 inch ones it's not really a problem.as they cover you anyway. Although you do need to wear tighter fitting pants.

Fleece backed ones are best for staying put. I'd recommend lady days, tcs eco and honor your flow. These cab be ordered with a hidden PUL layer so you have the extra security of thr PUL but the benefits of the fleece back.

Its also all about the measurements. Measure your pants( the gusset) and read the dimensions of the pad. Many have 2 poppers to allow a wider setting. U can also get wing extender things.

Diddledumpling22 · 13/03/2021 11:30

I have a pair of modi bodi pants and 3 of the pads from a site called Eco Period. They are waterproof backed hence the slipping. I'm going to persevere as I really like the concept of them, might just have to shop around a bit.

Try the favourites bundle from earthwise girls, that will give u a range if brands to try.

Honour your flow do a happy hour 8-9 every Sunday where its 20 percent off. Her pads are amazing.

PompomDahlia · 13/03/2021 19:45

@BoeotianNightmare I haven’t tried natracare tampons, only their liners, which disintegrated! I’ve tried TOTM tanpons and they didn’t hold their shape so I was put off and use Sainsburys which are plastic free and do a good job
