Vacuum cleaner recommendations!

monstermunchbunch · 11/03/2021 20:27

Such a boring subject I know, but it's my birthday today and seeing as I received basically no presents, I've decided to treat myself to a new vacuum (oh the joys of reaching my mid (well, late) 30's...

Has anyone got any recommendations for a straight forward vacuum that just bloody well does what it is supposed to do, is easy to use and light weight, without breaking the bank. Oh and preferably bagless.

I obviously have heard of the wonders of the shark, but is it really worth the hype? And if so, which one to get? Jeez, who knew turning 37 would be so fun filled...

This thread is a bit old now, so if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we recently updated our best vacuum cleaner buyer's guide, featuring the best cordless, cylinder and upright vacuums, tried and tested by Mumsnet.

We hope you find this useful.

Get a Eufy ! Nuff said Grin

monstermunchbunch · 11/03/2021 20:43

Sorry should have said, I am a single parent, who works full time, and one of the things I hate most in life (apart from my actual life) is vacuuming. There are a lot of stairs in my house and I don't think a eufy would cope! Plus I am not good with tech, so also don't think I would cope!

I am time and energy poor, plus not sure if I mentioned it, but I HATE vacuuming.

I just want something that is going to glide over carpets and tiles, and flipping well clean. With minimal effort from me.

I had a Henry... I think my relationship with him is what put me off vacuuming. He was worse than my ex for mood swings!

I have a Henry and would never recommend with lots of stairs it’s like a bloody tank! Fab suction and bread for all floors - on one level.

I also have a vax lift off. It’s the best hoover I’ve ever had. Light, can plug in at the bottom and lift up two flights of stair, hoovering as you go.

AlCalavicci · 11/03/2021 20:55

I hate vac'ing too hence recommending a Eufy , no tech know how needed whatsoever , mine is the basic model 11s so no apps or faff just plug and go .
But sadly he can not do the stairs so I bought a hand held little vac to do them .
I will pay very good money to the company that invents a robot vac that can cleans stairs too

Beefstew · 11/03/2021 20:56

I bought a miele c3 today, the suction is so strong it would nearly lift the floorboards . Got the floors done in quarter of the time it took with my old vacuum. Highly recommend ir

Beefstew · 11/03/2021 20:57

it

purplejungle · 11/03/2021 20:59

If you hate vacuuming I would get a robot vacuum - honestly life changing and v easy to use. We have a cheap cordless vacuum to do the stairs.

Spaceman1 · 11/03/2021 20:59

A small Henry every time!

user1471464218 · 11/03/2021 21:00

I had a shark duo clean liftaway corded upright vacuum delivered yesterday. First impressions, good suction and easy to empty cleanly but very heavy. It suits me ok (I think) as a fit strong able bodied 30s mum. This was replacing a crappy Argos £25 emergency purchase just prior to lockdown 1.0. Not sure if shark is too expensive for what it is.... quite possibly.

I also have a eufy robo vac who scoots round my hard floors downstairs and I love him.

LouLou198 · 11/03/2021 21:03

I have a shark HZ400UK, it is a stick one but corded, so compact and light weight, but more power than the cordless stick ones. It was half price for Amazon. Top section disconnects easily to do the stairs. It also has lights!!! I'm disgusted every week with what I empty in the bin!

monstermunchbunch · 11/03/2021 21:05

I just want something that I can do the whole house in without switching between them. Don't want to be lugging one up the stairs. Got a mixture of carpet and tiles in the hoise.
Cannot believe I am spending my birthday evening researching this, but I am truly fed up with the vacuuming issue, my vax has been dying for ages and it's only a few years old, but it's just such an effort.

I want a vacuum that will spark joy! Or at least, just require minimal effort, in the least time.

I was going* to say the vax lift away but it sounds like you have a vax already ?

monstermunchbunch · 11/03/2021 21:14

I've got a vax, can't remember which model or make and can't be arsed to do battle with the cupboard under the stairs to find out the model. But it's totally Shit!!!!! It's about four years old.

So fed up with having to do the vacuuming full stop, without the bloody vacuum adding to my woes.

Now looking at the sharks, can't afford the super duper one though.::

I bought a Shark lift away recently to replace my Dyson cordless (which was worse than useless). I am so far delighted with my new purchase. It is easy to flick between carpet and hard floor settings, has good suction, easy to empty, love the way the nozzle lifts out in 2 different lengths and the roller doesn't clog with my long hair. I loathed vacuuming when I had the Dyson but love it now as it actually looks like it's been done!

rosegoldwatcher · 11/03/2021 21:22

I have this Shark one. If you buy it directly from Shark you get a 'free' upgrade to the Pet Model. (In effect you get a powered attachment which is excellent for stairs.) It has 3 settings - deep carpets, not deep carpets and hard floors.

I had a Dyson prior to this. The Shark is much better. It has headlights!

ohidoliketobe · 11/03/2021 21:24

Had a shark lift away for 18 months now. Knocks spots off old Dyson and after using it once my die hard Henry fan cleaner has become a convert. Amazing suction, light and easy to manouver. Every time we use it DH and I always say "it's genuinely a delight to use", we're that tragic.
Several members of my team at work have bought one on my recommendation (after initially mocking me and claiming I must be on commission) and they also agree. I wish I'd spent a bit more for the anti hair wrap one as DD and I have long hair, but removing the build up is a lot easier than it was on our old Dyson.

Doublechins · 11/03/2021 21:24

Not a shark. It's my most disappointing purchase ever. It's brilliant on carpets but an absolute waste of time on hard flooring

monstermunchbunch · 11/03/2021 21:33

@rosegoldwatcher thank you, I have just bought this! Almost bought it on Amazon, but thanks to your heads up, got it from shark with the free pet upgrade!
House is mostly carpet so hoping this might rekindle my love for vacuuming. Or at least makes it less unpleasant...

SeaKelp101 · 11/03/2021 21:33

Ive had a Henry for a few years, last month I bought a Dyson V11 Animal! OMG! My carpets were so dirty and I didn't know. For the first weekend I amazed all my family with all the stuff in the cylinder. I will never go corded again, it's so liberating! Screen is brilliant. Very expensive but now as I have it I know why.

monstermunchbunch · 11/03/2021 21:35

@ohidoliketobe that is not tragic! What is tragic is that I am spending my birthday evening researching and asking for help buying a new vacuum!

Perhaps in a week I will report back and rave about what a delight my new vacuum is too!

Beecham · 11/03/2021 21:38

Miele c3 is great. Lightweight and incredible suction. It has bags which I prefer as the dust from bagless ones is unpleasant. It's £350 but will last you many years.

chickadeeeeeeeee · 11/03/2021 22:08

Which model of the Miele c3?

HermioneWeasley · 11/03/2021 22:24

Miele. We’ve been through so many vacuums, including dysons, and this really is the best
