I've let myself down

I prone to binging on sweet food but low carbing has really helped over last few weeks. No sweet stuff or junk food at all.Ive just eaten a bag of Galaxy minstrels and a whole packet of chocolate hobnobs in the space of an hour .I feel sick and guilty.

All you can do is see it as a hiccup and move on. Remember how well you've done over the last few weeks and damn those chocolate hobnobs for being sooooo good xxx

BrownEyedGirl80 · 11/03/2021 15:45

Thanks

Why feel guilty? You had a bag of minstrels so what ..in the grand scheme of things what difference will that once bag of minstrels make??? I used to feel guilty for having treats especially if I felt really full and a bit sick after, but then I just thought why do I feel guilty? I fancied chocolate and I ate some, it's hardly a crime. If you want to get back on to low carving just get straight back on the wagon. Feeling guilty wont help you either way :)

Kittykat93 · 11/03/2021 15:49

Low carbing obviously...not low carving Grin

JustDavesWife · 11/03/2021 15:50

I do this all the time so I have no advice but I wanted to say that you aren't alone. The guilt after is rubbish.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 11/03/2021 15:50

@KittyKat93 and a full pack of choc hobnobs Grin

Ingleduh · 11/03/2021 15:55

Get rid of that guilt!
Guilt is the main cause of falling off the wagon... Not the binge!
Let it go and move on! It's a blip, no big deal!

If low carb doesn't work for you and you feel the need to binge, have you considered eating to a calorie defesit? You can eat the hobnobs and minstrels as long as your sticking to your daily cals? It's slow and steady but I've found being able to eat foods I'm craving, has meant its so much more maintainable long term.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2021 15:57

Remember how nice they were, and avoid having them in the house in future.

When you've been on low carb for a while, it's easier to maintain it. However, don't stop as it's a bugger to get back into again. I did it for about 6 months and did really well- the odd blip that left me feeling a bit grim, but pretty much on track. Then I went to a wedding (afternoon tea type) and stayed with family afterwards. Nightmare. Stopped for a few days and just couldn't get back into it again.

It’s just a one off it’s fine, you haven’t let yourself down. I used to be very guilty of having something sweet and then thinking fuck it I’ve ruined the diet now I may as well carry on. Someone on here said if you drop your phone and scratch it you don’t jump up and down on it after because fuck it the damage is done I may as well carry on Grin it made a lot of sense to me so I often think of this.

I get you have enjoyed the minstrels and biscuits so just draw a line under it and keep going. I find having a treat maybe once a week or so helps. I follow a calorie controlled diet so if I fancy some treat food I just factor it in to my calories for the day, enjoy it, then can carry on without the guilt and thinking I’ve ruined things and having a treat every now and then prevents a huge binge.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 11/03/2021 17:02

I've had some raspberries now to even it out Grin in all honesty I didn't enjoy them much I just kept on going.

OP posts:
MacbookHo · 11/03/2021 17:04

Why do you think you ate them? What was the main thought in your mind? Was it, “I’m ruining everything but I don’t care” defiance? Or stress? Or ..what?

MorePotatoSalad · 11/03/2021 17:10

.

MorePotatoSalad · 11/03/2021 17:10

Oops lost my message Sad. Fat fingers.

BrimfulOfBaba · 11/03/2021 17:11

You've not ruined anything or let yourself down. It's just something that happened.

Shake it off and continue as planned :) you will indulge now and again and that's ok. It isn't realistic for most people to low-carb 24/7.

BeatricePrior · 11/03/2021 17:12

@Kittykat93

Low carbing obviously...not low carving Grin
If the OP needed the sweet stuff and hadn't of eaten it she may of been carving people later!

I get terrible chocolate cravings just before my period and I deffo feel like carving! Grin

BrownEyedGirl80 · 11/03/2021 17:12

@MacbookHo I just thought fuck it I'm eating them.Gluttony tbh

LApprentiSorcier · 11/03/2021 17:22

We've all done it on any kind of diet.

Draw a line under it and move on.

It's only a problem if you start thinking 'might as well give up now I've had a lapse'.

One lapse in a long run of sticking to your diet won't make any more difference than a single day of dieting would make in a long run of over-eating.

MWNA · 11/03/2021 18:23

Been there and done that.
The guilt feels horrible but just let it go. Start again tomorrow. Let the remorse strengthen your resolve.
You CAN do this.

MWNA · 11/03/2021 18:26

"One lapse in a long run of sticking to your diet won't make any more difference than a single day of dieting would make in a long run of over-eating."

This is excellent advice and beautifully put. Just keep on keeping on.

ColourMeExhausted · 11/03/2021 21:35

I can relate OP. Been slowly getting my eating back on track and making healthier choices. I was doing ok today despite grinding exhaustion thanks to DS sleep but popped to the shops and ended up buying a pack of bakery cookies (my weakness). Told myself they were for the family...ate all 4 to myself. Feel horribly guilty but I'm trying to see it as a lesson not to buy them because I know I can't stop at one. Mmm hob nobs though...

Howmanysleepsnow · 11/03/2021 21:44

So the hobnobs are, what? 80 cal each? 20=1600. Plus maybe 400 for the minstrels...
3500 cal= 1lb fat. This slip has cost under 2/3lb. No problem, back on the diet tomorrow!

I think that with almost anything you try to give up, you're bound to have a few lapses. It's OK, you're human, and it's a process, not a sudden decision and there's like a blinding flash of light and whoopee, you never ever do it again. So don't be too hard on yourself, you;ll get there!

Labobo · 11/03/2021 23:52

@MacbookHo

Why do you think you ate them? What was the main thought in your mind? Was it, “I’m ruining everything but I don’t care” defiance? Or stress? Or ..what?
I wonder this too. Was it self-sabotage? Emotional eating after a stressful day or because you needed a quick 'reward' for putting up with a lot of rubbish in your life? Or was it sheer boredom? I've been eating loads of sweet things recently which is unusual, and I think it's because I am SO bored with lockdown and all normal pleasures have been exhausted - I've even run out of things to watch on TV, so sugar is the only quick fix to make me temporarily happy, which is stupid, as I've put on a couple of pounds and the new blubber is hiding the toned waist I'd been working on.

Got to find ways to stay focused on the longer term joys of being slim and toned and full of energy and not knocked out by sugar rushes and dips.
