Help me find a deodorant

I can’t use aerosol sprays because of a breathing condition, I also can’t have one that’s overly perfumed. I also only use ones that are paraben and aluminium free. I prefer the solid stick kind to a roll on but would get over that.

I had always used a Sanex one that met the criteria above but they must have changed the criteria and then my arm pits came out in rashes Blush

I then tried a Bionsen one. My skins much better but the product smell is too strong for my breathing. I have to wear a cardigan to keep the smell in otherwise it’s too hard for me to breathe.

Please help! I had a few weeks of not wearing any deodorant to let my skin recover after the rash and was so stinky Confused very lucky to work from home. But I can’t keep using the one that makes it hard for me to breathe

Have you tried this brand:
nuudcare.com/

Sparticle · 11/03/2021 15:32

I bought this for my DD recently and it's been amazing. So much so that once I've finished my current Sanex roll on, I'm going to buy myself the classic version.

This is the link to the child's one

Pitrok is a natural crystal roll on which you apply to wet skin after your shower, I have used this for years as I too suffer with irritation from some deodorants.. it lasts for ages so another bonus.

OP, I may have the solution, but you may not believe me!

I am allergic to something in deodorant. It gives me underarm eczema which is very broken and very sore. I used to use the Sanex one like you did, then discovered the Clarins one which was fine for about 2 years until they changed the formula and I was back to square one.

Out of desperation I bought Salt of the Earth Natural Deodorant Unscented Classic, £4.99 in Holland & Barratt. It's essentially a magic crystal with, as far as I can tell, no active ingredients. I was so sure it wouldn't work at all, but it actually does.

Probably worth a go for a fiver and see how you get on. FWIW, it's not an antiperspirant, so it doesn't stop you sweating, but it is a decent deodorant. And no eczema :)

Sparticle · 11/03/2021 15:36

@TurkeyTrot that's the one I was referring to as well! Glad to hear someone else using it.

speakout · 11/03/2021 15:36

Do you need a deoderant?

I rarely use one, unless I am in a situation where sweating may be a problem- job interview for instance.

I shower and lather my armpits every morning in the shower, dry thoroughly and put on a little baby powder.
I don't have any bad odour.
I have a 20 yo daughter who is known for her direct talking- she would be the first to tell me.

@TurkeyTrot and @Sparticle the salt of the earth one looks like it’s worth a go. How long does it last? Not as expensive as some of the others which is good.

@speakout I think BO for me is linked to hormones. I’m pregnant at the minute and seem to go through stinky phases. I don’t mind actually sweating but it’d be nice if I didn’t wiff by the end of the day.

I can't recommend these two brands highly enough and I've tried quite a few.

AKT are a bit more pricy but completely avoids any smell even after heavy sweating. It smells like a high end spa treatment.

Simply Effective smell so lush and also work very well as a deodorant and also at absorbing sweat.

I use both and I would never go back to a regular deodorant.

I bought it about 3 months ago and it's barely worn down at all. I reckon it'll last about a year, using it once a day.

Cumberlover76 · 11/03/2021 15:46

I did used to buy Earth Conscious natural deodorant which is great, but i now make my own as is much cheaper and i know what goes in it can make any fragrance i want. I use this recipe . I collect up old face cream jars and store in that. You can buy tub of shea butter online for about £6 and lasts for ages and then bicarb (baking soda), arrowroot powder and coconut oil are easily purchased from supermarket. Although i got a big bag of arrowroot in Holland and Barratt. I use a mix of lavender oil and tea tree, but you can use whatever you like. Once it has set in the tine or jar, you just scoop a bit out each morning on your finger and rub under your arms.

If you're not sure, try a tin, or they do a bare bar, of the Earth Conscious first and if you like it then make your own.

I'm really sensitive to certain deodorants too and breakout in itchy rashes. I know not everyone agrees with it, but I use the Tropic deodorant (and no I don't sell it) and I find that it's really good and it's never made me itch.

Riv12345 · 11/03/2021 16:08

Have you tried tropic skincare op?

They do a gorgeous deodorant, it goes on like a cream, no nasties or additives. Have a lovely fresh smell.

amicissimma · 11/03/2021 17:19

I've used alum (not to be confused with aluminium!) on and off for years.

If you can find a lump/stick of it it's easy to just rub on your skin. It doesn't smell of anything. It's not expensive. It doesn't really stop you sweating but it prevents a build up of the bacteria which make the sweat smell.

The only problem is that the stick is fairly brittle and can snap, specially if you drop it, and is then awkward to handle.

speakout · 11/03/2021 17:22

amicissimma I think many people like to avoid the use of aluminium.

IcelandicMoss · 11/03/2021 18:15

Alum isn't aluminium - it is what the crystal deodorants like Pitrok and Salt of the Earth are made of.

speakout · 11/03/2021 18:16

IcelandicMoss

What do you think Alum is?

IcelandicMoss · 11/03/2021 18:19

I mean I get what you're saying but it's usually potassium alum and considered safer than the other types the chlorohydrate or whatever is in the standard antiperspirants.

IcelandicMoss · 11/03/2021 18:20

The point is it doesn't stop perspiration. The others do.

speakout · 11/03/2021 18:21

IcelandicMoss

Alum is a Aluminium salt which usually also contains potassium or sodium.

IcelandicMoss · 11/03/2021 18:21

What about the Scrubbington one? It is formulated for kids and doesn't smell much.

IcelandicMoss · 11/03/2021 18:23

Speak out, thank you O wise one

speakout · 11/03/2021 18:24

Speak out, thank you O wise one

No need for sarcasm.

IcelandicMoss · 11/03/2021 18:33

I'll be the judge of that.

Sparticle · 31/03/2021 10:25

@PinkPlantCase just an update, I bought myself a Salt of the Earth classic stick last week and have started using it. It's extremely easy to use but it is a bit strange not having an anti-perspirant for the first time probably since I was a teenager. So I'll have to get used to the sweating but no smell so far...
