Anyone have tinnitus that's multiple noises?

And do you manage to ignore it at all? I've had tinnitus for 5 months now. Multiple weird noises, new one popped up a couple of days ago that sounds like bagpipes in the far distance..... Nice. Wish it would just stick to the same sounds so I can try and ignore. So distracting.

How do you all manage in noisy places like the cinema or theatre? Does it make it much worse afterwards.

Mine is fine - the noise downs it out.

I have a sort of constant fzzzzzzzzz which I can pretty much ignore. When I’m stressed I also get a crunching noise in response to anything loud. As PP mentioned, the absolute worst thing to set it off is clattering crockery.

I tried drowning it out one night with music and it came back even louder for a while, was really horrible Tinnitus Uk said try to have noise so you can hear your T a bit but not totally block it, now a bit worried when lockdown eases as I enjoy cinema and theatre and think can I still go or would ear plugs help ? Hate this body thing!

At the cinema I use professional musician's ear plugs (off Amazon) which do the trick. It is dangerous to go anywhere where there might be sudden or prolonged loud noises without ear protection.

Thanks Bill will look for these, I can’t imagine not going to see shows but need to adapt to this hateful condition, hope they can find a cure in the future.

@awaynboilyurheid How long have you had it for? Sorry you are struggling with it too.

@Skateosaurus I have hearing aids for hearing loss, but they also produce white noise which blocks my tinnitus, so I only have to put up with it at night Grin

Yes I have about 5. My latest one is washing machine on middle of night. Yeah I don't get why it changes.

@BobRossPaints

Yes I do. I have a night pitched noise that is there all the time but I also occasionally here low rumbling noises, like there's a lorry parked outside my house with its engine ticking over. When I'm trying to sleep I put a cushion on my head and try to concentrate on listening to my blood flowing!!
I have this lorry one! First time it arrived I kept looking outside for the vehicle lol

@awaynboilyurheid I've never noticed cinema or music making my tinnitus worse so can't suggest anything, sorry. I used to go to very noisy concerts when I was young, they'd make me deaf for hours afterwards but had no effect on the noises in my head.

The only time I don't hear it is when I have a fan on in my bedroom or in the office in the summer. The quiet hum seems just the right level to mask it.

unplain I suddenly developed it at the beginning of January, it’s just one continual buzzing noise Still trying to adjust, difficult at times when it’s so new especially when it scarily spikes in loudness and affects sleeping even with noise app on my phone. Wish there was a cure to even one treatment to reduce it, maybe in time there will be. People who have had it a long time say in time they tune it out but not sure how long that takes! Long COVID sufferers are reporting it too, hope they can come up with something to help and not just try to ignore it!

UnplainJane · 13/03/2021 10:23

@awaynboilyurheid Yours is still very new, it might yet go. Although saying that I've had mine 5 months now and still no sign of abating....... I think it can take up to 18 months to 'get used' to it but I don't think a timeline can be put on it. I do have days now where I'm 'ok' with it/where it doesn't bother me as much as at the beginning but I also have bad days still as well. Mine isn't helped but the fact I seem to have some sort of facial nerve pain on one side as well, which is actually bothering me more than the tinnitus today! I think the problem with finding a cure is that it can be caused by so many things and isn't classed as a condition on it's own, just as a symptom of something else. But let's remain hopeful!

Oh I really hope it does go!!!! Sympathies to you too, for both the dreaded T and facial nerve pain, yes I'm having "good days" when its quiet and days where keeping busy and distracting is the only thing that works, but that can be exhausting especially if I've not slept well either!
if they can come up with a covid vaccine there's hope they can come up with a cure or at least something/ anything to even quieten it down!
