Sending small parcels to Europe

I have just finished wrapping half a dozen items for a birthday gift for a friend in Spain. Nothing that is prohibited (picture in a frame, sweets, soaps , little music box, couple of little plastic joke toys.) I checked the parcel dimensions and weight were ok and wrapped everything individually and have now looked on the Royal Mail website regarding the customs form. It says you have to put the weight of each individual item!! Do you thinking would be ok to guess? And then guess at what the packing and bubble wrap would weigh? Quite sad that I will need to detail everything as the contents won’t be a suprise on the birthday so will be as non descriptive as poss I.e picture, sweets, box, soap. Do they go through every customs form with a tooth comb, if I haven’t listed every weight correctly?

Are you sure you have to list the weight of every item?
Usually it's 2kg parcel, contains gift items, soap, sweets
Done.

Yes, it says you have to put the number of items in with weights, then the total weight...

I’d do what they’ve asked on the form - if yours gets inspected randomly and it’s not right they’ll destroy the packages!

It’ll be to do with Brexit!

I have packaged them up so securely now. Arghhhhhh

Just put 1 item and total weight. For description I'd just put gift soap or something similar

Weigh the whole thing on your kitchen scales. The rest just break down randomly, it will be fine. I send parcels internationally every day.

Thanks I’ll do that! Learned my lesson for next time I post to Europe!

Does anybody know the value that someone would have to pay duty from? Is it £20? £25? I will obviously be marking as a gift.

We send parcels to Europe (for our business) and dont list the weight of every single item (never do for any overseas parcels, just the total weight) , so far things are going through OK but it's only been a couple of months for the new rules in Europe.
Blooming Brexit has turned us into smugglers to keep our business going!

I can really recommend the Parcel2Go website or app. I send packages to family in Europe monthly and I find their service great. You don't need to weigh each item individually just to total package (and even then they give you guidance) then you print off your label and take to your nearest drop off point, for me it is much easier (and often cheaper) than Royal Mail.

Beware, it is currently a nightmare to send anything to Spain!! I live here, and received Christmas presents no problem in December. My cousin was late in posting over a parcel and sent it early January. Still haven’t received it! The recipient also has to fill out a customs form declaring items and value. I did this a month ago but still waiting. I honestly wouldn’t bother at the moment. Buy her something off amazon Spain if you really want her to get a gift.

I would list it as one item, assuming it's in a box and list the weight of it, I send stuff through dhl all the time with through work even after Brexit and it's never been stopped
