What do l want for my birthday?

That was the question from DH today. 56th in April and I don't have a clue. He's usually fairly generous and I usually know what I'd like.

This year though? I don't have a scooby Grin

I have all the perfume, make up, hair gadgets etc that I'd ever need. I don't want to do the chequebook thing. Don't need a coat, scarves, bags or boots.

Any ideas?

Neom scent to sleep candle would be top of my wish list.

Honeywort · 10/03/2021 21:29

Stuff for the garden. Beautiful rose bushes from David Austin or really comfortable garden lounger.

You don’t mention jewellery in your list of what you already have - anything you’d like there?

Silk duvet cover or flat sheet or just pillowcases depending on budget,

Babysharkdoodoodood · 10/03/2021 21:53

I'm a bit overloaded with candles atm. He got mea lovely candle tray for Valentines

I have a black thumb so plants are out and already had earrings at Xmas. Really hard for jewellery as I'm allergic to just about anything around my neck.

Silk scrunches are an idea though.

Hotel vouchers for a trip when things improve would be my choice.

Sunglasses?
iPad?
Kindle?
Personal trainer?

Solongtoshort · 10/03/2021 22:14

Ear air pods (don’t really know what they are called). An Alexa, a really nice pair of shoes or boots.

Babyfg · 10/03/2021 22:36

A holiday or little break to look forward to

nimbuscloud · 10/03/2021 22:38

Apple Watch ?

Peoniesandcats · 10/03/2021 22:40

Spa day and treatments when they reopen?

Babysharkdoodoodood · 10/03/2021 23:07

See, I have most of that stuff already. We already have a holiday booked (re-booked, I should say). When I go back to the gym , I have spa membership with it, so it's not really a treat. Got IPad Air, kindle and Alexa.

Apple Watch is an idea but don't know what to use it for. I already have a smart watch for the gym.

Maybe I just have too much stuff, or rather I have enough.

Maybe just a nice meal in with a bottle of champagne, he could keep the money for a little get away when everything improves
I think precious time spent with loved ones are worth more than any "item" gift in the world

Beautiful watercolour paints and if you don’t like (or don’t want) them, then I know someone who would love a donation!!

Mindgone · 11/03/2021 00:20

I’ve decided that I’d like to replace the plastic pots on our patio with beautiful glazed ones instead, would that interest you? It’s difficult when you can’t browse the shops for inspiration. How about asking friends or on here what’s the best present people have had in the last year or so?

JamMakingWannaBe · 11/03/2021 00:35

I'm asking for a bell for my bike and a kite. I'm in my 40s.

Workyticket · 11/03/2021 00:45

We stopped doing proper presents years ago as we were both buying pointless stuff

We take each other away usually. It's my birthday on Saturday - last year we squeezed in a last minute night away in Durham before lockdown 1. We had drinks and food, went dancing and had a blast.

We've lived on that night out for a year now Grin

Big birthdays we'd do a weekend abroad. It was DPs 50th in September so that one is banked for better times. My Saturday birthday will get banked too

I couldn't tell you what shit we bought each other in the early days but we remember every birthday trip away or don't, depends how drunk we got

BarbaraofSeville · 11/03/2021 07:52

I agree with @Workyticket. There's literally no point exchanging presents of significant value when you either have to guess and risk wasting money if it's not right, or having to say 'buy me X item from Y shop' between adults with their own money.

Much easier and less stress to just buy your own gadgets, clothes, jewellry etc when you can choose them yourself to your own timescale.

Then just exchange token consumables or go out/away to celebrate the birthday. Makes much more sense.

It's DPs birthday next week, and I'm getting him some food treats delivered that he can't currently access normally (meat from his favourite BBQ restaurant, some proper Cornish pasties from Cornwall and some fudge).

He just buys me posh chocolates, gin, unusual tonics and fizz.

mdh2020 · 11/03/2021 08:22

I love my Apple Watch but what I would ask for is Tiffany Jewellery. Always my favourite. For my birthday I want good quality noise-cancelling headphones. How about one of those delivery services that will deliver a bouquet every month for a year? Alternatively, if you really don’t need/want anything at all ask him to donate the money to a charity of your choice. Then you will both feel good.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/03/2021 08:36

I ALWAYS want a trip to a lovely restaurant with DH and our boys. I have years of lovely memories from those meals.

Ahwig · 11/03/2021 08:41

My son bought me a white company electric diffuser. It’s the best present I never knew I wanted. It’s on every night and the gorgeous scent lingers.

And in the past, this would have been lovely.

However when we've all spent the majority of the past year with our immediate family (every weekday and weekend night...) then a nice meal in with loved ones doesn't really have the same appeal!

JustAddCoffee91 · 11/03/2021 09:24

@MrsJBaptiste my 30th is at the end of March it's going to have to do for me and I'm quite looking forward to it tbh, probably because I'm a stay at home mum with 2 babies and don't really have that luxury often, it's usually a pot noodle at 10pm when the kids have gone to bed and it's quiet
