£500 for you

thaegumathteth · 09/03/2021 22:38

I've been given £500 and I have to spend it on myself.

I've no idea what on.

I'm losing weight so don't want to spend a lot on clothes, don't need make up, don't have anything I need for hobbies etc. I have plenty jewellery etc: can't go away etc.

Any tips? The last 3 months have been hard health wise and I would like to treat myself but it's so long since I've done it - in fact never to this extent that I'm struggling.

Can you buy some clothes in a smaller size so that you have a big incentive? Personal trainer? Exercise equipment?

AdditionalCharacter · 09/03/2021 22:42

iPad
Kindle
Fitbit
Nice boots for next winter
Handbag
Flower subscription

LifesLittleDeciders · 09/03/2021 22:43

Flower subscriptions. Or a sock subscription because you won’t out-size your socks 😉

New shoes
Handbag
Trainers
Kitchen aid
Sewing machine
Lovely underwear (maybe an idea for when you’re at your target weight)
Hair Cut and colour

Depends how much weight you're planning on losing, but I would buy a really nice good quality coat. I got a black Mac from Balenciaga in Selfridge's last August, it was last season's and therefore reduced from £1900 to £249. Absolute bargain and I wear it constantly, everyone compliments me on it and I adore it! It's a size 12 but oversized so fits my (currently sized 16) body really well!

Nice handbag or boots that would last years?
Gym membership for when they reopen next month?
Spa day/weekend break?

Hope your health gets better OP Flowers

Thanks

I have plenty clothes in a smaller size tbh!

Flower subscription sounds interesting though

Apple Watch

Oh a kitchen aid!! That's a fab idea. Feels extravagant though.

Please enjoy the lovely gift Smile.

Perfume, nice lotions, luxury food items in line with your diet, new night wear, flowers, books. Anything you normally wouldn't buy but makes you feel luxurious.

AlexaStop · 09/03/2021 22:52

Lovely warm slippers? I'd love a pair of ugg ones but can't justify spending £80 on them at the moment

Pippin2028 · 09/03/2021 22:57

It's quite hard to know what to treat yourself to at the moment, I think many people are gaining/losing weight with lockdown so clothes are not the best option right now.
Some suggestions

  • Decent Handbag
  • New technology (iPad, phone, kindle, laptop)
  • Something you would enjoy for the house, a nice coffee machine, an air fryer, new TV or sound system, new mattress or bedding

I'm sure posters will come along with some great suggestions but seeing as we are in lockdown and stay home, something to improve the home would be worth it

Myotherusernamewastakenagain · 09/03/2021 23:07

I'd buy a guitar.

frogface69 · 09/03/2021 23:11

Beautiful Egyptian cotton bedding.
A magimix
A foot spa

ExcusesAndAccusations · 09/03/2021 23:13

Sweaty Betty leggings and decent trainers.
Enormous Lego set.
Top of the range phone.
New telly
Linen sheets

KeyboardWorriers · 09/03/2021 23:29

Scented candles, bubble bath/bath oils, a heated throw and a huge pile of books?

Or a subscription box for a gift that will give you little boosts all year long. I have two book subscriptions

  • reposed (literary book, a little pamper treat and a food treat and drink in each box)
  • feel good book club (uplifting novel or self help book plus a few treats on a connected theme)

But there are lots of other ones out there.

KeyboardWorriers · 09/03/2021 23:30

Or a beautiful photo or painting for the wall?

SportsBlah · 09/03/2021 23:32

I love my Kitchen Aid, I use it quite a lot but it does make a beautiful kitchen ornament too.

Either that or some artwork.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/03/2021 06:42

Arts a good idea. There's a picture I want that's £650, and I could afford it and it means something to me, but it seems so extravagant., so if someone gave me £500 towards it, I might actually bite the bullet and buy the damn thing.

Ilovemaisie · 10/03/2021 07:19

Put it in the bank and wait. No point in getting something you don't really really want. If it was me I would save it until lockdown is over and I would spend it on a holiday.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/03/2021 14:33

New tech
Lovely handbag/ shoes/ purse.. which you'd never spend that amount on normally
Kitchen aid would be lovely
Or Coffee machine
Piece of really solid furniture
Painting or other art

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 10/03/2021 15:29

Maybe put some money aside for a haircut/colour next month.
Lovely bedding and towels.
Shoes/trainers/sandals.

ConsuelaHammock · 10/03/2021 15:52

I’d buy a limited edition print or a small painting by an artist I love.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/03/2021 15:55

I’d get a massage gun, they are absolutely brilliant

homebird46 · 10/03/2021 16:19

Inspired by a similar MN thread I bought four new kingsize pillows and four squillion thread count pillowcases from John Lewis. Love sinking into bed now. Your budget would stretch to sheets and a duvet cover as well, I should think.

I think flower subscriptions are very poor value for money ~£40pm for flowers from Flowerbox that would cost £15 in M&S. So you could sub-divide your £500 and resolve to choose your own flowers along with your grocery shopping every week. Or the same with wine, although that’s a poor shout if you’re trying to lose weight and get healthy.

Cool trainers and a new raincoat would make daily walks a bit more cheerful.

Or you could do yourself a little hamper of daily treats - posh shampoo and conditioner, fancy shower gel, hand wash and hand cream, perfume, scented candles, some books, chocolate, a new mug (I love the personalised ones from Cornishware and Emma Bridgewater).

I don’t think £500 would stretch to original artwork but it would certainly buy an antique print and framing - I love Sanders of Oxford if you want to browse.

Pastanred · 10/03/2021 16:21

I’d get my teeth bleached
