Does anyone else need to know everything about a topic in order to feel comfortable with it?

I wasn't sure how to word the title but what I mean is, does anyone else feel like they need to know all the intricacies and complexities of something before they feel comfortable with grasping the basic knowledge?

It's something I have recently noticed about myself and it's quite frustrating as it's very time-consuming and adds unnecessary extra work and stress.

For example, when I learnt to drive I couldn't just accept that you change gears when the engine revs a certain way or any of the basic rules that driving instructors teach you. I had to go away and research the mechanics of a gear box and how it works before I could start feeling comfortable with driving.

When I was a student I would do hours and hours and hours of reading on things, going back to research papers from the 1950s and 60s for example, in order to understand a small piece of knowledge rather than just accepting it for what it is. It resulted in good grades but was a lot of unnecessary and time-consuming work.

With work-related things I always have to find out why before I can just accept a fact. I can't just accept the procedures at face-level but have to understand why, even for little things that most of my colleagues just accept. I spend hours in my free-time reading up on things to find out why things are the way they are.

Is anyone else like this?

I'm like this with work and some other things but probably not to your extent.

I think I'm the opposite, I like to know as little as possible. Just enough so i can get something done/to work. Eg I had a new boiler put in last year and the man wanted to show me the ins and outs of different settings but I literally just turn theeeee heating on when I want it on and off when I dont. I dont use the timers or anything
