Anyone know anything about ECG's

I had an ECG last week and it said "Abnormal ECG- normal sinus rhythm, T wave abnormality, consider inferior ischemia"

Nurse at GP practice said it looks like I could have had a small heart attack and not to worry. Well I have been worrying all weekend and phoned GP this morning who explained nurse should not have said that to me and given my age and other observations it is ok for me.

I'm still actually really worried/anxious. Can anyone explain about the ECG

Should say I have had an echo scan which was normal

The automatic printing on the ecg is notoriously inaccurate, no one should be giving you information based on that.

If the doctor has reviewed it and said it’s fine, you don’t need to worry.

Thanks @MrsFionaCharming
I know Gp has reassured me but I can't help but panic, I don't usually suffer from
Anxiety but this has certainly caused me panic.

The t wave is usually a smooth curve. Any blip will trigger the 'is there an issue' statement from the machine. Most of the time a blip is nothing.

The GP isn't just going by the automated flag, they've looked at the actual waveform.

If your GP is satisfied that there is no evidence of a problem I'd stop worrying (I know easier said than done!).

I was going to say exactly the same as @MrsFionaCharming

The auto print writing on an ECG should always be ignored and clinical expertise to read the actual recording.

MrsFionaCharming · 08/03/2021 13:50

Yeah, anyone would panic if they were casually told that then just left to it!

One of the first things you learn about ecgs as a student is that the automatic interpretation is to be ignored. Presumably at some point an accurate machine will be invented, but not yet.

Thank you all so much for replying. You have made me feel so much better. I've not slept all weekend and glad I spoke to GP this morning. Thanks again

Yep, I've never even looked at the automatic interpretation. Genuinely worse than useless, I have no idea why they include them on the printout--probably to justify charging more for the software! Glad you're feeling better.

Thank you @ClockworkNightingale
To be honest, I was always feeling okay it was some kind of routine thing they were doing at GP's but I wished I'd never gone now the stress it had caused me lol
