Sat nav app that tells you the right lanes to use?

Does anyone know of a sat nav app that tells you which lanes to use at roundabouts/ junctions, and so on?

Go by road markings and which direction you want to go.

Generally if you are going right at the roundabout you stay in the right hand lane and if going left stay in the left lane. Going straight ahead you could be in more than one lane depending on road markings.

TomTom does for major junctions, dual carriageways, motorways. Not for normal roundabouts and stuff.

If I ever need directions I use google maps and if there are multiple lanes it tells you which one(s) you should use but it's no different to what is on the road signs or painted on the road itself.

Are you in England? I've found this to be the case wherever I drive

MedusasBadHairDay · 08/03/2021 11:26

I find that just making sure the sat nav is fairly zoomed out so that I can plan ahead is the best solution for this? That and making use of road markings/signage.

I'm not sure I'd trust an app to be absolutely correct when it comes to lanes etc.

If you aren't confident working it out yourself maybe a driving instructor could provide a refresher lesson?

This function exists, but it's not 100% accurate, so you need to work off the road signs and markings anyway.

If you're not a confident driver, maybe some extra lessons would be a better idea?

I find that even if you are using the correct lane there’s always some numpty who isn’t and wants to cut across you.
Big roundabouts are a nightmares of the knows, the don’t knows and the couldn’t give a fuck.

Thanks everyone.

I have a new commute for work, and I have to go through a lot of big city roundabouts. A lot of them have 4 lanes, and I'm not 100% certain which lane I need to be in :(

Look at Google streetview - you can usually see if there are any lane markings on the road so you can plan in advance.

Waze is excellent

My cars inbuilt sat nav does but it often tells you far too late to be of use unfortunately! I agree with looking at Google maps or relying on road signs and road markings.

PricklesAndSpikes · 08/03/2021 12:58

Please don't rely on any app as road markings and signage may be changed and therefore different and you could end up in a real pickle and possibly cause an accident. Take a drive at a quiet time like a Sunday morning when you have plenty of time and work it out. That way, if you go wrong, you can drive round and try again. Far safer.
