making lockdown birthday special

Morning All,

My twins have their birthday this coming Sunday. As with all other mid-March birthdays, it will be the second one they 'miss'. (Though we were not strictly in lockdown this time last year, the direction of travel was clear and they didn't have a party for that reason Sad.)

I was hoping to pick the collective MN brain. Have any of you lovely lot found good ways to make birthdays special without friends and parties? I'll obviously be doing cake and presents, but would love to make it really great for them.

TIA

Last year we made a funfair in the garden for dd1, earlier this year we made an indoor beach party for dd2.

There are companies that do zoom parties - we had a disco themed one for DS with a few friends & it went down well but that was when they weren't at school so hadn't seen each other for ages. If they like magic at all you can join zoom magic shows or have one just for you. We also had a company deliver a teepee set up for DS & brother to have a special sleepover. They do various themes or you could do similar yourself. If you're willing to pay you can have all sorts eg outdoor cinema yurt in the back garden, inflatable games, hot tub!!

My dd just attended a zoom party for her friend that was lovely. Friend's mum dropped off a party bag with a craft activity for the party, a silly hat to decorate before and wear and a cupcake with candle so they could sing happy birthday. Then on the call they did a scavenger hunt and bingo then sang happy birthday with the cakes and chatted. Maybe a sleepover with teepees and blankets in the living room with a takeaway and movie with popcorn? Buy a disco light on amazon and have a living room disco you all dress up for? Treasure hunt for presents in the am?

How old are they?

Answers would be different if they were 12 not 2 for example? What interests do they have?

These are fabulous - thank you! Sorry for the delay, I've had a busy morning and the fact I'd started a thread went out of my head. Yes their ages would have been helpful - sorry - they'll be 12. I'm liking the Zoom party idea. Thanks again all!

DS was 7 in January when the weather was awful and we couldn’t plan anything fun outside. Instead we did 7 surprises throughout the day- things like a personalised giant cookie, a helium balloon delivery, a Cameo from his favourite Power Rangers actor, a Pokemon themed breakfast etc.

Oh that's lovely @BangingOn - thank you!

What about hiring a sleepover party to come set up teepees? I’ve seen them online and they look really good. Or hiring a hot tub and having a hot tub party?

DD was 13 last week and it's just me and her, not even any siblings to celebrate with. So things I did:

Present hunt with clues when she woke up.
Balloons.
Confetti cannon card.
Her favourite breakfast - pancakes and Nutella.
Had afternoon tea delivered on a posh cake stand and then ordered Macdonalds for tea. Had our cup of tea from my posh tea pot and best china!
Watched a movie with popcorn in the evening.
Obviously Zoom called the family too.

We actually ended up having a very pleasant, chilled day.

Could you meet their friends in a playground for a outdoor party and give cup cakes etc?
