How are you all feeling this morning? - first day back to school

I'm feeling sad as I will miss my dc being home with me. I will find lunchtime hard as I will be eating alone for the first time since November ( silly I know).

I am excited for them to be back with their friends and getting some proper learning done.

How are you feeling?

I have politely emailed them having vented my anger here instead Grin

Ambivalent and messed up! I got the day wrong for DSy10 and took him in this morning needlessly. Been crying all morning since (me) he didn't sleep last night as anxious. So I have messed up bigtime :-(

Relieved , sad, anxious, all at the same time.
None of us slept well last night.
I have been trying to do everything at once for so long I don't know what to do with myself now.
Still anxious about DD getting Covid and transmitting it to me. I've had long covid since last March and have been diagnosed with a chronic condition.
Won't be getting a vaccine until later this month.
Happy for DD to see her friends.
Glad I can get my work done.
Sad that I'm not spending all day with her as actually I've really enjoyed it and she's a fab little person!

He's awake, he's fed and you care so don't be so hard on yourself Thanks

After all these weeks of home learning it feels very strange not having to do it. It's so quiet.

Year 11 DD went in about an hour ago. I’m going to miss having lunch with her. DS year 9 goes back tomorrow. I’m going to have to keep myself very busy as it’s going to be far too quiet!

My primary aged child has gone back..and she will be fine.

The eldest is going back later in the week. Far more worried about this..she isn't going into a school but a hospital/borstal. Wish there was a proper alternative.

I'm not happy about schools being back and think they should have stayed closed until after the Easter holidays anyway.
But since I can't change that I've accepted it and was fine. Ds couldn't wait to go this morning. He was excited about it all weekend

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/03/2021 17:49

We've still got another week to go yet (Wales).

Can I ask why?

From a personal perspective I've found homeschooling while working full time incredibly challenging but from societal perspective the impact of schools remaining closed would have further impacted women and their ability to work.

Ds has been going through lockdown due to my job but he's glad he can see all his friends again.I really thought some mums were going to start a Conga at drop off 😄 everyone looked so happy.

My year 8 child with ASD has been in since January. She has been anxious about the school becoming crowded again (not because of COVID) but has been brilliant at COVID testing. My year 6 child has been really good at home but was fed up of online lessons and delighted to get back to school. I had the house to myself for the first time in 12 months as DH had a work visit for about the 3rd time in 12 months. It was so quiet. We have about 36/100,000 COVID rate here and I'm not remotely worried about COVID (NHS office worker part time in the office since last Summer). I'm just so happy to see some signs of normal life returning.
