..... would be far more of a issue than it ever turned out to be.

For me I think
Quicksand & spontaneous human combustion.

My aunty told me that if I swallowed my chewing gum then all of my organs would stick together 😳 I swallowed some by accident not long after that and was terrified I was going to die 🙈

I was (am!) a complete bookworm, but.... we used to travel to France by car regularly and I'd play spot the car with myself. I used to think there were two brands of cars, one of which I never saw:

Mercedes - with a hard "c"
and
Masaides

What a muppet!

Sharks in swimming pools thankfully turned out to be less of a worry than I'd first anticipated.

Getting sucked into the filter of a swimming pool.

Escalators sucking me in if I wasn't quick enough.

TokyoSushi · 09/03/2021 15:36

Cutting my fingers off by them getting trapped in an escalator.

And yes to acid rain & spontaneous human combustion!!

I worried that if you ate apple seeds a little tree might grow inside you. Forgot about that.

I don't know, they hid behind grills in the deep end Grin.

I remember bawling my eyes out because I was trying so hard but couldn’t get to sleep on Christmas Eve and Santa wouldn’t come if you weren’t asleep. That was clearly a lie fed to me by parents rather than a misunderstanding though.

Also being very sad that the sun would die soon.

Always keeping an eye out for tornadoes like in Wizard of Oz.

Quicksand
Spontaneous human combustion
Never give a lift to an old lady as it would probably be a murderer in disguise

justiceandtruth · 14/03/2021 15:02

God. I’d forgotten about the pool filters that could suck you in if you got closer than a metre to them .... although I think this was a thing in the ‘80s with pools in Tenerife & stuff.

When I heard that people were in custody I thought they were imprisoned in a vat of custard.

zukiecat · 14/03/2021 16:46

Getting sucked into an escalator, scared me for years.

When the first "test tube" baby was born, I just couldn't figure out how a baby would fit into such a tiny glass tube Grin

DaveGrohlsTeeth · 14/03/2021 16:53

Yes to spontaneous human combustion, quicksand & being sucked into pool filters/escalators.

I'll add leprosy. I was terrified of it and thought it was a real threat.

And piranhas coming out of the bath tap! Because that could happen.

sueelleker · 14/03/2021 16:54

I don't know, they hid behind grills in the deep end grin. And then the villains order the grills raised to let them out. (Bond film)
