What would you buy with this money?

My DN passed away. She really didn't have much at all, never had all her life. The money she had out of her insurance after funeral expenses was £250 per grandchild.
I'm getting a memory bear made. Which is around 100 for the person I want to do it. What would you buy with the other 150.
O know it's really not a lot of money but I don't want to just waste it.
I have tonnes of pictures etc so don't need more of that stuff. I also have some sentimental items of hers like an ornament so don't need that.
So I'm stuck for ideas?

Do you have a garden, if so how about a tree or some plants?

KettleWentBang · 07/03/2021 22:35

Yes but we rent, so wouldn't want to do a tree if we had to move.
And I'm really not green fingered. Only thing I can grow is weeds! Haha

Fruit tree in a communal orchard? There's one not far from me people could sponsor/buy trees and add a small stake with details. Then in autumn you can harvest your fruit, I think there's a committee deal with keeping the trees alive/plot mowed.

Would you like a nice piece of jewellery? Maybe a silver ring with a pretty stone. Or if not, how about saving it until you can have a nice night away somewhere and buying a lovely meal and raise a glass to your DN.

What about treating yourself to a nice piece of jewellery? You can wear it and remember her.

HerRoyalNotness · 07/03/2021 22:42

There is a scheme where you offer micro loans to help people get on their feet, they repay it and then you can loan again. I can remember what it’s called but I’d think of something like that as a small ongoing legacy in her memory

KettleWentBang · 07/03/2021 22:43

I like the idea of a ring.
I'm not a jewellery lover. I only wear my wedding ring (and not always as often forget to put back on after washing up)
Or maybe a nice necklace as I have no nice going out jewellery anymore.

I would keep hold of it and give yourself some time to see how you feel and what seems "right" . There's no need to spend it all immediately or make decisions all at once.

We got £100 from an aunt and used it to buy a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser. We would never had bought one ourselves but we use it everyday. DC for hot chocolates and DH & I for coffees.

Definitely a piece of jewellery and the bear is a great idea

KettleWentBang · 07/03/2021 23:23

Yes. I think jewellery but I won't rush to buy a piece.
I'm doing the bear. It's of he outfit she wore to my wedding it was the only time she wore it. Nothing will beat that for sentiment.
