I never used a sling/wrap with my first, I really want to with my second, any suggestions?

I used a close caboo a friend gave me from a few weeks old - delayed by CS recovery. When she was too big for that and I wanted to carry her on my hip or back I got a fantastic Mei tai which DH and I both love and find really comfortable. He’s much taller than me so slings without buckles make it easier for us to both use without endless adjusting.

I loved the Beco Gemini Cool.

I bought an ergo baby sling. It can be a pain when out and about because it’s basically a long piece of fabric but they are good for newborns because they are soft and snuggly Smile

I have a ring sling too which is good for popping baby in and out but I don’t really like it - it digs into my collarbone. I think I’m wearing it incorrectly though.

I've seen ones that claim to be from birth to 6 months plus but think realistically you're going to want a stretchy wrap for a newborn and then a soft structured carrier for an older baby.

Thanks everyone, I have no idea whether I am best getting a wrap or sling! I'm having a planned c section this time.

Yes early in something like a close caboo.

When bigger a Tula is great but not brilliant very easy doors IMO.

I got a stretchy baby sling by Joy and Joe off Amazon. Only 20 quidish so thought it's not a great loss if it doesn't work for us. Had a section so I just tied it to the side away from the wound. We wore it almost every day and it made trips outside and housework much easier. Now baby's 4.5 months he's a bit too big for it so we're looking for a more solidly structured design. We couldn't have managed so well without the stretchy sling! Good luck with everything :)

I've not had a C section myself but with a stretchy a newborn would be worn well above where a typical C section wound would be. I was wearing mine within days of birth and it didn't feel like anything was being put under strain

Yes, get a stretchy wrap for the first three months. As pp has said you can carry after a CS if you feel comfortable. I had DS in a stretchy on the postnatal ward 2 days postpartum.

Pinkywoo · 07/03/2021 10:44

I had a section and used a thin woven wrap with no problems. It sat above my waist while DS was tiny and was the only way he would settle, then when he got to about 6 months I switched to a thicker one that you can use up to large toddler size if your back can handle it!

Thanks everyone!

Ergo! Had a baby bjorn and could not comfortably carry LO when he was 6/8 weeks old as it too uncomfortable. Only stopped using the ergo because he was too heavy on my front and uncomfortable for long period of times on my back
