Vivid Dreams

Not sure if it’s the medication I’m on but I’m having such vivid dreams lately, some of which stay with me all of the next day. Last night I had one about a beautiful young woman who was marrying a man at least twice her age & everyone was saying it was for money. I kept seeing a stunning Georgian house, with four floors, and amazing sea views at the back & I could see the woman in a wedding dress through the window. After the dream was over, the image of the house was so clear in my mind. I live in Cornwall & half expect to go somewhere & see that exact property. It reminded me of a giant dolls house, with loads of windows. Has anyone else had memorable dreams?

Yes, I have this now and again.

I’m always dressed in Edwardian type clothing in a beautiful large house overlooking expansive gardens. I know I should be happy but I feel sad and trapped. The weather outside is always gloomy. The things that stays with me is the sound of crows ‘caw cawing’ outside.

Whenever I hear crows cawing like that I remember this dream, it almost feels like I’ve lived it. I do wonder if it’s some kind of memory passed down through the generations or a past life. It stays with me for days when it happens, maybe once or twice a year...

I had a dream a few nights ago that all my teeth were falling out. So so vivid! I could actually feel them rolling around in my mouth Sad

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady that means you’re worried about getting old. Incidentally, I’m curious what your user name refers to.

It’s a thread of wonderous calm www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/2154580-There-is-a-tiny-elderly-Korean-lady-in-my-garden-and-I-want-to-go-out?msgid=48794533

I have a recurring dream of being on holiday by the sea. There is a long curving bay sheltered under the green headlands - think Carbis Bay or any of the sweeping beaches in the south west. We walk down to the beach and find a spot usually up towards the end away from the crowds. This bay is revisited most nights in my dreams for the last 7 years or so. Each dream contains something different. It could be a walk before heading down to one end through some birch trees as the sun sets, swimming in water that is full of red weed or, like last night, seeing a huge wave wash all my DC over some rocks and then scrambling to find them.

There is always one constant part. We head back up off the beach and the headland is a massive sea wall. It is the height of a tower block and stretches round in a gentle curve for several miles. As we stand there, eating ice creams, we look to the right and the sea levels are up to the top of the wall and the waves are dark, foamy and the sun is setting behind grey clouds on the horizon. To the left below the sea wall, stretching out are fields, towns and other settlements but there the sun is rising and people are going about a new day. The height of the water above the settlements is easily 50 metres.

Each dream starts with the coast as I know it then ends with the monstrous sea wall. Infilled are different stories some involving good things and others fearful. I attribute the dream to worries about climate change.

One of my most memorable dreams was from when I was about 8. There was a lovely pink thatched cottage and beautiful music playing. I went inside and was at the top of some stairs. I couldn't get down them as they were unsafe and was calling out to my mum who was just looking at me blankly. It had turned from a lovely dream to a nightmare and I woke up upset. (My mum could be unkind to me in real life and preferred my sister so the dream was probably related to that)

I also remember dreaming about my dad being crucified when I was slightly older. I think it was because at the time I felt sorry for him as my mum gave him a hard time. (I don't any more as it was his choice to stay with her)

My dreams always have a sinister 'atmosphere' even if nothing scary is happening. And I frequently come to realise it's a dream and then it's difficult to wake myself up. Which is fun.

abstractzebra · 07/03/2021 11:44

Just lately I've woken up once or twice every night because I've dreamt I've fallen into a tiny space (different places) and know I can't get out or no one will find me.
It really jolts me awake and upsets me.
I'm not into the meaning of dreams but can't help but think it means something!

iklboo · 07/03/2021 11:45

@NoMackerelInSwindon - I have a very similar dream about a bay too! Sometimes I go inland and there's lots of little houses and cottages. It's always a very peaceful dream and I think as I'm having it 'oh lovely. It's the bay dream'.

I have another recurring dream where I'm outside and there are billions of stars visible. Another really relaxing dream.

Farthingale · 07/03/2021 12:27

I'm enjoying a netflix drama series called "Behind her eyes" which features recurring nightmares and lucid dreaming if anyone's interested.

NoMackerelInSwindon · 07/03/2021 13:51

Seen it. The whole strength of that series is in the twistiness at the end.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 07/03/2021 14:25

@EternalOptimist7 yes I've heard that. Also related to being worried about losing your looks. Both fairly accurate.

Username relates to thread in classics as pp said.

Although some mumsnetters seem to think it signifies that I'm a raging racist HmmGrin

everythingbackbutyou · 07/03/2021 17:36

@EternalOptimist7, if your medication is an antidepressant then most likely yes, it's the bloody medication. I would like nothing more than to never dream again.

iklboo · 10/03/2021 14:55

Last night I dreamed a 1800s style British Navy ship had timeslipped into our era. James McAvoy was the captain and I was trying to get them home again. We had incredible sex and he asked me to go back with him. I did a spell and the ship vanished, but I was left behind.

I went to a museum where I found the skeletons of the crew were on display with the wreck of the ship and was heartbroken. As I left there was a massive flood and the ship reappeared intact. The crew helped me on board and I ran to James McAvoy, kissing him. Then I woke up.

I'm blaming:

Watching The Terror
Seeing a trailer for next week's SU2C bake off
Reading Rivers of London
Being menopausal

There's surely no other explanation?!

iklboo · 10/03/2021 14:55

Oh, and am amitriptyline before bed.
