Been called to jury service, stressed single parent

Hi everyone.
This morning I have been called to jury service in may. I am a single parent to 3 girls aged 18, 14 and 6.
My brain is in over drive.
My work have said I may not get paid so would have to claim back from the government. This would be a big loss for me plus if I needed to pay for childcare too out of that money, think it's £32 for 4 hours l.
I am wondering if I should defer to the summer holidays and try and ask the dad to have children and then I would still get paid my holiday pay from work or if I just do it in may?
I have told my manager.

Yes they could help. It would just be getting her to school in mornings

How can they prove you got it?
It does work but if you don’t want to risk it then fair enough

OP I’m in Scotland so it may be different but this week I received a letter calling me for jury service. The dates were during school holidays so I emailed asking to be excused as I have no childcare provision during holidays and it was accepted. This wasn’t mentioned on the list of reasons to be excused but was still accepted.

I don't think I can not acknowledge the letter, I'd worry too much. I'm going to try and get excused, if not I'll ask to defer so fingers crossed

It’s a bit tricky when two of your children are pretty much independent and you haven’t asked the father if he can help. I think it’s worth looking into the options

My teenage girls are due to start back at school/ college next week. I have been working throughout lockdown and my 6yr going to school. My teenage girls father lives in america (sorry I never mentioned they have different dads) and they havent seen him for 18 months due to covid and him not being able to visit. My 6yr olds dad works for HMPS and only has every other weekend off which is when he has her.

I am very interested in doing Jury service but I cant afford to be out of pocket and have added stress to my life. I have just watched a video on it and how they ask so many different people to attend. I understand that. There is also the stress and anxiety it would cause to an individual.

I was just looking at driving and parking nearby. Would take 45 mins to drive plus park and walk to court. If I got a train have to drive, park get on a train and then walk.
