How has MN helped you?

There's a lot of negativity on twitter around MN at the moment, so just wanted to do something positive and focus on the ways MN had helped so many of us.

For me the biggest things are;

  • the long running hyperemesis threads, they got me through two awful pregnancies.
  • wooly hugs being such a heartwarming and generous project, I still treasure the blanket I got sent when DD was in SCBU.
  • Let Toys Be Toys - I love knowing that what started as a discussion on here has gone on to make such a huge difference
  • and just knowing that, if you are struggling at silly o'clock in the middle of the night, you can find support (or just something distracting and amusing)

I think that's it for me, knowing that there is always a little light distraction here helps.

Mumsnet made me aware I could decline induction when my pregnancy continued past the due date, and request (and get) a C-section. There was so much advice and pointers to relevant research I was able to decide that the outcome of a C-section would be better for me and my son, and it was amazing - quick, pain free and fast recovery. I would have been clueless as to my rights without this site, and am extremely grateful.

I'm also very grateful to Mumsnet for making me aware of the extreme implications of the trans movement, though I'd better not say too much about that as I don't want my post to be deleted.

For helping me to spot all the dots that I could join up and get a referral and diagnosis for DS1's ASD. He masks well, and school only see the mask.

For just being there as entertainment during the night feeds.

Being a foreigner, I had no knowledge of British school system. Education board helped me so much over the years how to deal with dc's education.

Got me through multiple miscarriages. I’ve got a wonderful husband and mum but no one helped as much as the brave, kind, hilarious women who were going through the same thing at the same time. We’re now friends off MN and I’ll never be able to explain to them what their unconditional support during the unbelievable lows and nerve-wracking highs of losing babies then finally getting one brought me.

There is so much wisdom, humour, thought provoking stuff on here.

Multiple recipes, household tips, words of advice I keep in mind, none of which I’d have without this place.

Helped my Dd get better marks in her maths GCSE as noblegiraffe said the exam boundaries were going to be really low as it was a new hard exam so I told her her advice to keep going and wheedle out any extra marks. She ploughed through it. Others were crying around her and gave up.

That’s just one example. But I thought it’s a nice one as it helped the next generation too.
