Ways to make money from home?

StormsDontLastForever · 03/03/2021 19:29

Looking for some recommendations on how to make some extra money from home.

Looked into joining scentsy but it's £85 starter pack which I can't afford at the moment.

Was wondering if anyone has any tips on how I could make some extra money? Has anyone done any surveys etc that is advertised online?

Any other recommendations? Thanks

What do you have to offer? Do you have skills that are marketable? Do you want short term or long term income? Does your house have potential to create money?

FoxyTheFox · 03/03/2021 19:32

Do you have any marketable skills such as a second language, a craft, a trade, etc?

Lots of employers at the minute are offering work from home positions, particularly call centres.

I don't have many skills like crafts etc. I worked as a recruitment consultant for 10 years but left a good few years ago so computer skills aren't up to scratch etc anymore. Also have a dd who is at school so need to be available for pick up and drop off times

Can you just find a job that working from home?

Hoppinggreen · 03/03/2021 19:42

Scentsy s an mlm, you will lode much more than £85 if you join
I am sure that as a Recruitment consultant you will have sales skills you can use, even if it was a few years ago.
Just look for a job wfh rather than get sucked into any crappy “mompreneur” scheme

I tried the surveys once over, but I always got a few minutes into one and it would tell me I wasn't suitable. Happened for most of them (apparently 40-something sahp aren't very interesting...). Plus you have to earn a certain number of points before you get any sort of reward or money.

If you're looking for ways to make extra cash from home, I would suggest starting an online store (through Instagram or Facebook, whatever) for anything that suits your hobby. If you're interested in fashion maybe a thrift store or you could make handmade things like jewellery or candles or gift boxes or anything that you feel happy doing. You won't need a big initial investment so there's no risk of losing a lot of money or anything. If it blooms you can make a good sum of money. Good luck.

There are lots of free copywriting and proofreading courses (copy blogger) is a good one. Then you can freelance build up a good reputation and make £££.

Ditto writing courses. A good trick to get you writing is submit things to Whisper app, list verse, and loads of sites like that then use that as a springboard to get bigger and better jobs.

Please don’t do mlm’s. Online tutoring is great if you have an area of expertise.

There are lots of customer service type jobs if you know where to find them as well.

Storingeggs · 03/03/2021 20:07

Lots of recruitment jobs available too - unfortunately a lot are commission based

It sounds like you just need a job of some sort that has flexibility or the option to work from home. Do you have a partner or co-parent who can work flexible hours or some from home too? Dh works full time and I work 4 days a week and we manage the school runs just fine between us with no wraparound care or family help.

If you are ready set on working from home, what about transcription? It’s boring and you need to be able to type quickly, but the computer skills are minimal. I did it to make extra money through uni. Through an agency, I don’t know what they’d pay, but self employed, you can charge around 90p per audio minute. Even if you’re slow, you can do an hour a day which is £54 x 5 days a week is £1080 a month. But you can do more if you are fast and can find the work.

If you’re near a depot you could do amazon flex delivery in your own car. I do it part time and the money isn’t bad for the job.
Also Uber eats etc? Delivering around lunch times.

The truth is you are looking for something that doesn't really happen. Yes people are wfh at the moment but you need an actual job nit an MLM, not scentsy, Body Shop, Arbonne etc.

What computer skills do you need to work in recruitment? You can teach yourself pretty much anything with a bit of you tube.

What you actually want is a part time job.

Sgjudxbyef · 03/03/2021 21:21

How much extra money are you looking to earn?

An MLM will cost you money not make money.

Have you looked at the £10 per day threads?

lachy · 03/03/2021 21:28

Please don't get drawn into MLM (Body Shop,Tropic, FM Perfume, anything where you have to buy a starter kit)

It will cost you money, and your self esteem.

BlackBrowedAlbatross · 03/03/2021 21:37

I would second transcription if you can type, the company I work for asks for a minimum of 20 hrs per week but you tell them which hours you can work and can switch them around each week if you want. Pay starts at 40p per minute of audio/video, goes up to £1.20 per minute for certain types of files. Depending on the file it takes me 2-4 hrs to do an hour of material. I'm working for a company that provides this service for TV and film companies, so some files are a bit dull but most are quite entertaining. Google it if you're interested, that's how I found it. (You do need a computer and a foot pedal but they pay you for the files you do while you're training.)
