What do you do for your health?

I've just lost a stone.
I drink 5 green tea's a day.
I drink 3-4L water a day.
I've downloaded an app with a monthly step challenge where you compete against the other users.
In February I was doing at least 10,000 steps a day but increased to 13,500 for March. Yesterday did 21,000 though.
I try to remember to do 10 squats every time I have a wee.
We've only had 3 takeaways since 1st January.
I've cut out alcohol and smoking, 61 days now.

I'm feeling really well now and my fasting blood glucose is coming right down even though I've stopped metformin (it's been recalled).

What other healthy habits could I add in or what do you do to feel well and healthy?

Impressive!! I would consider adding in strength training - it's good for your bones and joints - and core training which will help your back. I have so many colleagues in their 50s with back problems and I'm determined to strengthen my core and back and keep that whole "corset" of muscles healthy. I'm not talking about lifting 200kg dumbells, I'm talking this kind of thing that uses your own bodyweight and light hand weights:

I run every day which isn’t for everyone but enjoy it.
Make sure I get my 5 a day
Do yoga a few times a week.
I need to sleep more so going to bed at a sensible hour is my next project.

Well done! I am slowly making changes, but very slowly!

Sleep is a big one for me.

I had a few very late nights so was exhausted and used that as a kickstart to sort it out. Now it's bed at 9pm to read or watch and then if I feel tired I can just reach over and switch off the light at 10pm. It is singularly the best thing for my anxiety and mental capacity.

I'm best on no less than 7.5 hours and 9 hours a good few nights a week. I read that we sleep in 1.5 hour cycles and this seems true to me.

Walk 10k everyday
Watch my diet
Take my vitamins
Rest when I can
No takeaways

I still enjoy my few beers every Friday and Saturday night though.

TeaAddict235 · 03/03/2021 12:17

Perhaps eating whole grains, pulses and beans to your diet?

PaperMonster · 03/03/2021 12:29

I walk a lot, drink plenty of water and avoid the foods which push my blood sugars up.

PaperMonster · 03/03/2021 12:30

Haha, just realised that that includes everything the previous poster had suggested to you!!

Lurkingforawhile · 03/03/2021 12:33

I do some gentle / yin / nidra type yoga classes which I find useful for functional fitness, reducing stress, and breathing. I do a more normal flow class too and this is good for balance, strength and core.

I'm diabetic so I don't eat carbs (other than in veg etc, for the pedantics).

Yes! That's the next thing I'm going to add in. I've got some 1.5kg weights, and a few fitness blender videos that I like; standing abs, 10min arms, 100 squats.

I do not eat the cornucopia of crap I would like to each day.

Said as I scoff a cream cake a lovely patient brought in for us!

But genuinely, not eating everything I want to when I want to is probably the biggest thing I do for my health.

I drink loads of water because I want to and I walk (hike when allowed) because I enjoy it, rather than for health reasons.
