Bed time on a school night for 14 year olds.. late night football training

ChateauMargaux · 03/03/2021 08:24

My daughter plays football and training finishes 15 minutes away at 8.45pm 2 nights a week.

Does this seem late to you?

Do your kids have activities that finish this late.. in the world where activities are allowed...

I appreciate your feedback.

I don't have teens but that doesn't seem late for a 14 year old, no.

starbrightstarlight8888 · 03/03/2021 08:55

My 11 year old has scouts that finishes at 9.30pm on a school night so no that's not late especially for a 14 year old.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/03/2021 08:56

I wouldn't expect a 14 year old to have a set "bedtime" either, at that age they can manage their own sleeping patterns.

I think that's fine

Is homework done before? Or can she cluster it on to other night?

hollywoodstar · 03/03/2021 08:57

I suppose it depends on what time she needs to get up in the mornings and how much sleep she needs to function well the next day. My DS15 has no particular bedtime and self regulates. He will sometimes stay up very late, but pays the price the next day and so he has en earlier night.

RedGoldAndGreene · 03/03/2021 08:58

Most 14yo are going to bed at 10 or later so not too late.
My 14yo goes to bed at 10:30 on school nights and has no problems getting up for school the next day. If he went to an activity that ended at 8:45, he'd probably get home, have a shower then chill in bed with his phone until lights out.

Thesearmsofmine · 03/03/2021 09:00

Yeah my 8 year old does a sport that finishes at 8.30pm. It is run by volunteers and that is when they are able to do it after work/life. My 4 year old also does the sport on a different day and finishes at 8pm.

bonbonours · 03/03/2021 09:00

Yes, guides finished at 9.15.

My 14 year old stays up later than me most nights....

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 03/03/2021 09:01

Definitely not late. Ds’ sports club finishes 9.30.

Doesn’t have a bedtime, manages that himself but generally switches his light off about 10pm. 10.30 on a sports night once showered and had supper.

I guess it depends what time they need to get up too? Ds gets up 7.15am for school.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/03/2021 09:05

No it doesn't seem late. Why, what time does tour nearly 15 year old go to bed?

fiveoldteddies · 03/03/2021 09:05

same, her sport finshes at 9 or 9.30 depending on the day. I do find it a bit late, but t least 1 night is a Friday night

TierFourTears · 03/03/2021 09:11

So, home for 9.
Snack to eat, shower. Bed for 9.45?
Given my 11 year old currently has lights out at 9.30 (and us usually awake by 6) I cant see that being a massive issue, assuming there is time before football to chill, do some homework and eat a meal.

Invisimamma · 03/03/2021 09:14

My 9yr old trains 6:30 - 8pm, so I don't think that 8:45pm is particularly late for a 14 year old. By the time they're home, showered and had something to eat, they'll still be in bed by 10pm at the latest.

It is late if you need to take younger siblings with you to pick them up though.

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2021 09:15

My two DSs used to play junior football and had two nights a week of training around that sort of time. The struggle was that after running about for an hour, once they got home they weren't exactly ready for bed within half an hour of getting home.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 03/03/2021 09:16

I’d say 10pm is a normal bedtime for a 14 year old, so 8.45pm doesn’t seem late, no.

sirfredfredgeorge · 03/03/2021 09:30

My 8 year old had activities that got her home after 9pm, it's certainly more unusual than usual I'd say for a 14 year old to need to be home by then.

But sleep needs are not the same for everyone, it could be that your DD does need to be asleep early, that isn't wrong, just unusual and may mean things are a struggle.

ChateauMargaux · 03/03/2021 09:41

Thanks for all the responses.. seems not unusual then.

She finds it late and is also not great with change... She does seem to need more sleep than her brother and she doesn't tend to sleep in at weekends.

She gets up at 6.40 and needs time to wind down after she gets home and is usually hungry afterwards so it all adds up being quite tired by the end of the week.

I guess she will adjust...

My daughter is 15. Since she was 10 she has been training for a sport that means she doesn't get home until 10pm on a Monday night, and that has been fine.

minniemoocher · 03/03/2021 12:35

DD's football training ended at 9 at this age, 30 mins drive home too, I did complain but got a complete dismissal of my concerns, was told facilities had to be used for all age groups and the 14-16 year olds were the oldest!

spiderlight · 03/03/2021 12:53

Mine has Air Cadets until 9 twice a week (outside lockdown) and has a lift home with one of the officers, so by the time she's finished locking up etc. he's often not home until 9.45, sometimes 10. I'd prefer him to be home earlier but it's manageable.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/03/2021 13:08

Mine goes to sleep at 11, and up for school at 9.00 am. Registration starts at 9:30.

I had to check that you didn’t mean 9.45 pm. 8.45 pm isn’t late!

CloudPop · 03/03/2021 15:56

My daughter wouldn't be keen on being out that late during the week. Not that she goes to bed super early, but would find it tiring I think.

optimisticpessimist01 · 03/03/2021 15:59

I think her staying up and not going to sleep until 10pm would be enough time for her to wind down and get enough sleep for the morning too. When I speak to my students (I teach mainly GCSE and A level age) they think a 10pm bedtime is early!!

FedNlanders · 03/03/2021 16:32

Sounds fine for 14. In summer th curfew was 9.30 for mine. I take dd phone at 10.30pm x
