Hi

I have a very distressed 5 year old with a flare up of eczema, which usually disappears after a cream like oilatum is added. Tonight she is very upset over the soreness. Would giving calpol help the soreness?

I would for my kids, it may help her feel more comfortable.

Antihistamine might help. Cold compress. Maybe some oats in a tied up tea towel, like a poultice, to reduce the heat, therefore the itch and sting would def help. Hope it quickly abates.

Thank you both. Tried the oats tied up in some cut up pillow case and that either took her mind off it or did help. She has suffered from it on and off for about 4 years just behind her legs but it’s never been so sore she cried. Perhaps I need to try some stronger cream for her.

Jackie, how’s your little one now? My son has had moderate to severe eczema since birth. He is 5 , almost 6 now but we only recently managed to see a specialist eczema consultant privately. He was itching constantly and not able to sleep. 90% off him was covered, poor soul, so I know how stressful it can be. This doctor has changed up his creams and advised us more and it’s really helped. Feel free to pm me if you want x

For eczema, prevention of flare up is the key. So daily cream up is the must, even the skin looks fine.
Also no soap, use the cream for soap substitution.
You really need to see the dr and get the steroid cream for flare ups, also they can prescribe creams, bath emollient, bandages etc too.
