I’d love to organise a short trip from London by direct train to a seaside town where I can stay a night, and then do an all-day coastal walk (20 miles-ish) to another town where I can get the train directly back to London.

Where would this work?

Thanks!

Obviously this is for when it’s allowed!

How about Brighton to Eastbourne ?

Laska2Meryls · 28/02/2021 16:22

or Seaford to Eastbourne ( seven sisters walk )

Whitstable to Margate on the Thanet Coastal Path is about 15-16 miles. You could continue to Ramsgate which about another 8 or so miles.

Those sound great - thank you x

Are you on the coastline most of the walk with those walks?

Littlehampton to Brighton is about 20 miles and you can do it all along the seafront. Or if that’s too long you could do Worthing - Brighton which is about 11 miles.

Mooey89 · 28/02/2021 17:45

(Having grown up in Littlehampton my recommendation is to stay the night in Brighton and get the train back from littlehampton, but I’ll leave that to you 😂😂)

AtlasPine · 28/02/2021 19:41

Thank you Mooey! Appreciated. Looking at it now.

Portsmouth to Southampton. You would take the Gosport ferry and the Hamble-Warsash ferry and the path hugs the coast almost all the time. It would be a decent day's walking.

KeyboardWorriers · 28/02/2021 19:45

(should add, the ferries take a few minutes each and cost a couple of pounds but make the walk extra interesting Smile)

I think Broadstairs or Ramsgare to Herne Bay or Whistable has much of interest - Bleak House, the Reculver towers, Turner gallery, Kingsgate Castle, a tidal pool at Walpole Bay, North Foreland Lighthouse and lots of good beaches from wide expanses to smaller bays.

Or the Solent Way. Emsworth to Old Portsmouth. Emsworth is a pretty little town on Chichester harbour. It goes via Hayling Ferry and along the front at with its Castle and views of the Solent.

Sounds lovely!

Whitstable to Margate or Ramsgate can be done mostly on the coast line depending upon the tide times which you’d have to check obviously. But at the list you’d be on the prom or on the cliffs (so eg Reculver could be on the coast at low tide but at high tide you’d have to move up to Bishopstone cliffs for a short stretch.

Hastings to Rye? Only 9 miles apparently but you could start from Bexhill to add the miles on if you really want to!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2021 20:12

This is a lovely thread! Very inspirational.
The walk from Folkestone to Dover is spectacular along the cliff tops.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/02/2021 20:44

What sort of walking are you looking at? Flat 'promenade' type walking or clifftop, which might include a lot of up and down steep rough terrain.

AtlasPine · 28/02/2021 23:03

Thanks all! I’m fit enough for the ups and downs but would always prefer a walk with minimum amounts of time spent sharing a road with cars and maximum amounts of time in view of the sea. So I don’t mind cliff tips or beaches, rough terrain or well constructed paths.
