Why would someone hid raw chicken in my potato patch?

I am not the best gardener and I forgot to dig up my tatties last October. So I just thought I'd turn the soil over a bit and new tatties would grow from last years crop.

I noticed a plastic bag sticking out, it was only about 4" deep, so I pulled it out. It was a small, thin, clear bag. Inside was parchment paper and in that, chunks of raw chicken.

Myself and my neighbour A share a door from our stairwell to the garden. They have one side and I have the other, there is a path and beds that mark the boundary. The entire space is enclosed by a wall, it's about 6' round my side and over 7' round the neighbours. There are no gates, you have to go through the building to get out to the street. There are neighbours either side of us and at the back, there is a private business.

We are a veggie house and have never had chicken in our garden. Neighbour A is not veggie but has a small dog that runs around the whole space. They were in the garden when I dug up the bag and were as confused as me.

So I thought I'd ask the hive mind here, why would someone climb over a 6' wall to bury chicken in my tatties?

Maybe a fox dragged it out of a food waste bin?

It was a full moon last night.

Have you ever blocked a neighbour’s driveway? 😀
No, but I asked the council for new glass recycling and the neighbour on the other side screamed in my face saying I was the worst thing to happen to this area for 20 years.

Could a cat have stolen it from a neighbour's kitchen? Or do you get large birds such as seagulls overhead?

The bag wasn't sealed. Was neatly wrapped over. I can imagine an animal with a bigger mouth picking it up whole. A smaller animal like a cat (I have cats), wouldn't be able to hold it neatly up and dig the hole. I can't imagine my cats being able to do that. Cats do hide food though, my cat has hidden treats under cushions. He pretends to dig at the sofa like he's covering them. He's allergic to chicken, fish and soy, so he's not going out just now. He breaks into other people houses and eats other pets food.

I feed a pair of foxes and they’re always burying stuff. They actually don’t eat a lot in one go but they love to have a cache so they take more than they need and hide it. It’s like when people say they kill all the chickens for fun when they get into a coop. They don’t, they kill them to come back and cache, but they usually get disturbed and found out and the chickens cleared up before they can come back.

I love ‘my’ foxes. I’m thinking at least one of the neighbours has had a bit of whatever I’ve given them that night buried somewhere Blush
