Need some mindfulness techniques

There was an incident with my family last year which, though not dire in the scheme of things was not great for me and highlighted how differently me and my sibling are treated. It also brought events from the past to mind, and i keep thinking about all this whenever my mind wanders (esp when I wake in the middle of the night). It's not healthy.

I can't confront my family about it for various reasons, but do need to be able to let it all go. I'm sure mindfulness could help, and would be grateful if someone could point me in a definite direction of what I need.

Mindful.org is a good website to start with and there are lots of meditations/practices on Youtube. Look at Jon Kabat Zinn. As well as lots of techniques and meditations on Youtube, he has written extensively on the (scientifically based) benefits of Mindfulness and is one of the forefathers of the philosophy in its current state. 'Mindfulness: a Practical Guide to finding Peace in a Frantic World' by Williams and Penman is a really accessible and easy to follow book - it takes you through an 8 week programme of mindfulness practice. The book is on Amazon, but also on audible (which has a 30 day free trial at the moment) in audio book form. There is also a website based on the book which takes you through the mindfulness programme. Sending you very best wishes. x

I used to spend nights awake with thoughts whizzing, growing worries, harking on the past. It’s taken time and practice to prevent this and I still actively work on it. Learning how to be mindful and meditate have helped enormously (PP ‘s advice is excellent) and also awareness of over-thinking/negative-thinking. It’s not a 5 minute fix but we’ll worth persuing. Good luck OP.

Thank you all, but especially thanks to @Cleaningismycardio. Your post is so incredibly detailed. I wish I'd asked months ago.

I use the headspace app and it's been really helpful for me. The beginner course is free and then you upgrade to access more.

Headspace really helped me too. It definitely calms my brain down.

Eckhart Tolle has some good videos on YouTube (and a book: The Power of Now). Actually I think there are some audio tracks on Spotify as well.

I just did a course that was brilliant with www.ibex-ct.com/
I needed it for reasons similar to you op. They do one on one and group training on zoom and offer some really helpful bite size, one off sessions that are great fun.
They have just started to put some free videos on YouTube (I have found the peripheral vision technique especially helpful to distract me when I’m dwelling and starting to spiral) and there is loads of helpful free stuff on their website.
