What are people's hobbies? What do people think is the most expensive hobby? How long have people kept up their favourite hobbies? And what about collecting things?

gardening....new since last year. Seem to be quite good at it and i love being outdoors....its also an alternative to my last obsession/hobby which was running

before that it was geocaching. all the kids can get involved too

Cycling - 35 years. I have spent £10000s on it.
Swimming - 40 years - in pools and open water - less on kit, but more on pool membership/entrance. Probably not as much as I have on bikes though.

General outdoorsy stuff since i was a teen. Waking, climbing, canoeing, camping. Bit of running. I’m not one for staying in or sitting still.

Swimming. Not too expensive but my search for the perfect swim bikini adds up. I’ve enjoyed it since I was 5 but have swum more since I had DS.

Walking. Not to bad on kit, it’s more the cost of the weekends away doing it. Been doing that for 20 years.

Riding - weekly lessons don't have to be too expensive - around £30
It gets expensive when you buy a horse as although they don't cost too much to buy, they are big, delicate animals that cost a lot to maintain.

Horse riding - since I was a teen, now own my own. A cocaine addiction would be cheaper.
Hill walking - again since I was a teen - relatively cheap as I live in rural Scotland and my gear lasts for years
Running - pretty recent - just the cost of some decent trainers and leggings
Reading - since I was wee - much cheaper now I have a Kindle and can download samples
Baking - since I was a teen - not too expensive and the family love it.

Canoeing... Obviously the canoe was expensive, and some of the other equipment like the bouyancy aids/life jackets. But ongoing, it's just the annual membership/insurance. We go on public waterways.
Camping... Equipment expensive (but can be done cheaper). But site fees often minimal.
Walking.. just boots and waterproofs, which we need for the above

At home..
Lego... Can get expensive
Jigsaws.. cheapish
Reading... Kindle Unlimited
DHs Warhammer painting... Since he buys, paints, sells, not too bad really.
