Pocket money for DC?

My DDs are 12 and don't get pocket money, more of chucking them £10 here and there when they meet friends etc.
I'm thinking pocket money is probably more sensible, to help with teaching them to save and understand the value of money.
I want them to earn the money rather than just give it to them.
Should they complete set chores for X amount or should they earn X amount per chore? How much is acceptable?

I don’t believe in linking it to chores, sorry. My kids would skip their chores if they were optional. They have to do chores because they are members of this household, and they get pocket money because we all need some money.

Mine got £25 a month at 12. And if they spent it there was no more given or lent or advanced if they wanted to go somewhere with their friends.

Ds got 5 a week on his gohenry card since he was 6. I suggest getting a pocket money card as it really teaches them to budget. I don’t link to chores as I fully expect him to take responsibility for age-appropriate stuff. He’s saved a lot and uses it for small treats, books, computer stuff.
