What are you most proud of (because it’s taken a lot of hard work)?

For me, my autistic teen son is passing a few school subjects in mainstream and he’s so damn proud. As am I.

I couldn’t be prouder. He’s my world.

Share your proud moments with me and make an old lady happy 😂

Fantastic! Well done to both of you. Your son should be so proud of himself and I am proud of you both. What an incredible achievement you have accomplished and I'm sure you played a bit part.

My marriage

NewjobOldme · 26/02/2021 23:17

I recently returned to work after 10+ years as a SAHM. I've been through PND and anxiety with confidence and self esteem at rock bottom but I've made a new start.

flappityflippers1 · 26/02/2021 23:24

Congratulations to your son!

I’m super proud of managing generalised anxiety disorder - I’ve worked so bloody hard with therapy, making sure I use and build into my life the techniques I’ve been shown, work extra hard on days the anxiety is really difficult to manage.

I feel it’s under control now - this is what normal people feel like, and it’s amazing!

BraveGoldie · 27/02/2021 11:13

Oh these stories are so inspiring to hear! Thank you for sharing them.
@grassisjeweled @Sunnydays999 @NewjobOldme @flappityflippers1 these are all huge achievements that must have taken real perseverance! All admiration to you!

Very well done to your son👍👍👍

Even before I opened this thread, I thought, my teen. He too has autism, and after literally not wanting to leave the house for 3 years, and basically just shutting down, he is just about to complete his online courses. Lockdown has worked wonders for his anxiety. I am so proud and relieved.

Sadly, the powers that be at child maintenance and tax credit etc do not believe his courses are valid... So another battle is about to commence🙄

I'd love a quiet life with no stress😁

BoogleMcGroogle · 27/02/2021 11:38

Congratulations, you and your son should both be proud.

For me, my lovely children. My son (9) has hidden disabilities and over lockdown has discovered how much joy he gets from
Walking. He now often manages 10km.

And completing my doctorate thesis during lockdown, while working and homeschooling. There were a million times I could have merrily chucked it in! I just ordered a new wheelie bin from the council as Dr McGroogle 😆

I’ve posted about this before but it still blows my mind that I’ve achieved this.

I left school at 17 with crap qualifications. When I was 24 I started a college course two evenings a week after work and passed with an A. I then took direct entry into 3rd year of a degree and passed with distinction, while working full time. I went on to an MSc (again while working full time) and I not only passed, I won a medal for getting the top grades in the cohort.

I’m now eight months into a PhD, impressing my supervisors and teaching university classes. It has been a long, hard road and I’m really proud of myself.

My friendship with my children and their partners. I had a very bad start in life and was convinced that I did not have the ability to be a good mother.

I wasted many years worrying that as adults they would not like me.

Thesagacontinues · 27/02/2021 12:27

Those achievements are the best 🥰 I remember when ds was younger he was not able to ride a bike even with stabilisers. He has asd, very poor co ordination and no strength in his legs. It took about 18 months before he could master it on his own. The day he was able to finally do it, I was so proud.

Also proud of myself for managing to stay working through his early years and frequent appointments and building a career for myself. Because of that, I am buildiing a house so know that when DS is older he will have a decent inheritance to help him out. Its a worry of mine that he wont be able to have/keep a well paying job and if that was the case, an inheritance would help him to be comfortable.

LunaTheCat · 27/02/2021 12:31

I had a difficult upbringing - alcoholic dad with anger ranges and a needy mum who spent a lot of time in and out psychiatric institutions - I worked hard and focused and became a doctor - it still amazes me!
I am very very grateful.

Well done OP.
I think, looking back I did really well about 20 years ago to undertake my OU degree, whilst bringing up 3 small kids, with very little help from their dad. I completed it, and it led to me becoming a teacher.

Looking back, I don't know where I found the time - I financed it myself, by working part time.
