Writing to celebrities

Hoping for some help!

Has anyone written to a celebrity recently asking for an autograph?
My best friends got a significant milestone birthday in a few months and as we will be unable to have the big party she was planning, I was thinking it would be a great surprise to put together an album of signed celebrity photos wishing her a happy birthday.
She’s an amazing friend who for various reasons hasn’t celebrated a single birthday since her last milestone birthday 10 years ago. Pre COVID she had been planning a big party.
I’ve decided to pull together an album of signed celebrity photos wishing her a happy birthday. She loves watching soaps and celebrity gossip, and will really appreciate this. I don’t watch much tv but I have googled cast names for eastenders, coronation street, casualty and holly city. I am happy to hand write and post sae envelopes.
I’ve had a look for other celebrity addresses and most of the information seems to be really old or no information on how to write to the celebrity. Jamie Theakston for example doesn’t have any contact information on his site.

I don’t have Twitter or Instagram and can’t use Facebook as she can see my posts and that will ruin the surprise.

Can anyone help me with contact details? Or experiences of writing and asking for autographs? It would mean a lot to me.

I don't know about writing to ask for an autograph, but you can buy a personalised video message from celebrities on something like Cameo. Google says another one is Thrillz. A friend got her boyfriend a message from Wagner from X factor and they absolutely loved it

PPNC · 26/02/2021 13:05

You could contact their agent/agency? Google their representation.

Cinderbelly · 26/02/2021 14:13

Thanks both, although I like the idea of the video calls, she definitely wouldn’t and would prefer a photo / letter. I will look at the site and see if they offer photos instead.

I did google representation for the stars but I was hoping for a PO Box or postal address and none of the famous people I googled seem to have that. I’ve sent an email to Jamie theakstons agency.

I’m not really big on celeb culture so I’ve got no idea how this works. I had assumed that if you wanted to send fan mail to a celebrity and ask for a reply you could still do that, but actually in practice it seems much harder, which is why I thought I would ask here to see if anyone had any practical experience and could give me some advise of how they’ve done it.

My kids arranged a birthday video message for me. From a favourite (but slightly obscure) character.

It was brilliant. Lots of personal references and it was an amazing surprise on an otherwise shitty lockdown milestone birthday.

I write to Rufus Sewell at least weekly proposing marriage. He hasn't answered yet but I know I'll wear him down eventually.

ChessieFL · 26/02/2021 16:36

Contact them on Twitter?

Cinderbelly · 26/02/2021 16:56

Off to google Rufus Sewell...

I did, donkeys years ago. I wrote to Tim Vincent when he was on Blue Peter. I got a lovely signed postcard.

Cinderbelly · 26/02/2021 17:03

Chessie I don’t have Twitter and even if I set up an account and figured out how to use it, I’m not sure that would help me here?

Maybe people don’t write fan mail anymore?

Instagram is your place to start. Most celebs are in there.

Cinderbelly · 26/02/2021 17:09

Hmm, I think I could probably figure out Instagram quicker than Twitter...
I might be being dense here, but how will posting on Instagram get me a signed photo? I assume there’s a private message feature but don’t you have to send an envelope and a stamp?

I’m only in my 30s - I sound like I’m 100!! Confused

I would just Google “celebrity name fan Mail postal address”

Cinderbelly · 26/02/2021 17:39

Maybe I wasn’t clear in my post, I have tried to google the addresses and all the information is really old (10 plus years) so I’m not sure if it’s still correct, and I don’t have have Twitter or Instagram.
Specifically I was asking for advice from people who have sent letters / contacted celebrities recently and had replies.

Most B-D list celebs have their agent/management info in their bio on Instagram. From there you can either Google the management company & send a letter & self-addressed envelope or email them (email more likely to get ignored though)

MoveOnTheCards · 26/02/2021 20:43

The agent/management team is the way to go. Either email them directly (Googling will give you their details) or find them through the celeb’s insta bio. It’s quite an old fashioned thing to ask for so give yourself time to get responses but a nice request should be accommodated from most. Especially soap-star level.

It’s a nice thing for you to do for your friend 😊

Myneighboursnorlax · 26/02/2021 20:44

I used to collect celebrity autographs, and one thing I did find was that often agents would just stick a signed photo in the envelope from a pile of pre-signed pictures, so even if you do find contact details you might not get the happy birthday messages you’re hoping for unfortunately.

TheVolturi · 26/02/2021 20:54

Oh my word what a brilliant idea these video messages are! I've never heard of those. My 40th this year and none of my lot would ever think of anything this thoughtful 😪

SparkysMagicPiano · 27/02/2021 09:58

@TheVolturi

I wasn't even aware that they are a thing and spent a very baffled morning wondering which of my kids knew X due to the many personal references in the video!

TheVolturi · 27/02/2021 10:07

It's a really good idea isn't it, not sure whether I should drop some hints or does that defeat the object 😂

partyatthepalace · 27/02/2021 10:16

Write to the agent.

If the celeb has social media they might list them, otherwise Imb pro

MinnieJackson · 27/02/2021 10:51

I emailed this morning about ten years ago and they sent a signed postcard picture of holly Willoughby for my husband. Just a generic autograph, no messages. I'm sure soaps must have a similar thing.
