London people, can you recommend a restaurant?

A Jamaican restaurant please.

I'd more inclined to think the owners of restaurants would be on the restaurants section of Tripadvisor than hanging about Mumsnet. Unless a mumsnetter is a restauranteur, then obviously they would big up their business.

RubyViolet · 26/02/2021 14:11

Ma Petite Jamaica in Camden would be a good choice for a night out as you could walk out and find loads of cocktail bars in the vicinity after dinner.
Have fun planning .

I always think personal recommendations are better & yes you don't know posters from Adam but I've had excellent recommendations over the years.

MrsTophamHat · 26/02/2021 14:30

Trip Advisor can be crap. The places the locals know and love are the real hidden gems.

I hope you get a good recommendation OP!

wondarah · 26/02/2021 14:37

Without being offensive I also think Tripadvisor probably had an older demographic so may or may not be relevant & different countries have very different user numbers.

SadderThanEeyore · 26/02/2021 18:47

@BarbaraofSeville Tripadvisor is skewed. Complainers are more likely to review than your average customer. It was clear from the thread title where this was going, quite why you needed to click on it just to be arsey I don't know. Just scroll on and ignore.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 26/02/2021 19:17

People aren't necessarily being arsey saying that restaurants are closed - sadly I think that many restaurants will not survive lockdown, and probably remain closed. Small independent restaurants are possibly more high risk than larger chains.
If you aren't travelling until November/December, you're likely to get a clearer idea from responses in August when the dust has settled and people have a clearer idea of what is up and running.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 26/02/2021 19:21

London restaurant TripAdvisor recommendations are usually full of American tourists who are often looking for different things in their food than I am. They are useless in the main.

supercee · 26/02/2021 19:29

Someone just asked about Edinburgh hotels in summer and not one arsey response or a direction to TA. Hmmm.

All the more reason to make recommendations and pre-bookings.

In Tooting market - where there are others, plus all sorts of other Street for.

Really hope they all survive!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 26/02/2021 21:19

Bamboula in Acre Lane Brixton used to be very good

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/02/2021 21:25

London is vast and has hundreds if not thousands of Jamaican restaurants. Also, things might change a lot between now and November. Maybe ask closer to the time OP, when you know whereabouts you will be staying?

waitingforautumn · 26/02/2021 21:26

I had a table booked at Rum Kitchen before lockdown!

DavidsSchitt · 27/02/2021 09:07

God forbid you try and plan ahead.

Do pps not realise that if she rocks up to a recommended restaurant and they happen to be closed she won't starve to death

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 27/02/2021 19:41

It wouldn’t occur to me to look on TripAdvisor for restaurant recommendations. A quick look at listings of places near me is enough to convince me that it’s full of people with some very strange ideas or axes to grind.

BearEastie · 27/02/2021 19:43

I think you may need to ask closer to the time OP as many may not survive, sadly.

Pepper and Spice, and Rhythm Kitchen are awesome but they are bit further out East.

BearEastie · 27/02/2021 19:44

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool haha, I used to work in a place and if our reviews were on the down (always) we had to come in half an hour earlier, unpaid, on a Sunday morning and make up bloody trip advisor reviews.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 27/02/2021 20:26

@BearEastie Thank you for confirming my suspicions!
