Do you pay Dentist charges for children?

I was previously in receipt of benefits so myself and my children were registered for NHS dental care (but they are registered at a different practice)
Today I received a letter saying that their practise can’t facilitate NHS children anymore and that I could instead pay a monthly charge for each of them.

Is this what happens? I thought that all children received free dental care irrespective of their parents incomes.
I live in Wales if that makes a difference.

No charge for children on the NHS.
Ask elsewhere.

Yes, all children are entitled to free NHS dental care. However, if the entire practice is going private and closing to NHS patients you will need to register at a different practice.

If they no longer offer nhs care then the charge will be for private dental treatment. You would need to look for another NHS dentist

Its not because of your income its because the practice has decided not to treat NHS patients. Our dentist did this but we were happy with them, we pay £6.40 per month for the kids, I cant remember what we get but they have had their check ups etc as usual and we have never had to pay anymore and they still referred to an NHS orthodontist for their braces. Or you could just move them to an NHS dentist.

Ah I see, thanks for the clarification.
The charge is £16 for a preteen and a young child.
I am happy with them but don’t want to be hit with more charges later down the line (and £16 is ok if everything runs to budget but after this year I’m wondering whether to risk it)

We are registered with a private dentist. They don't charge children when attending with an adult getting a treatment e.g. hygiene clean. If it's a child only appointment for 6 monthly check it is £20 per child. Also pay normal adult fees for things like fillings which cost £85. I must say it is worth it, my kids teeth have improved a lot since I left the NHS.

Usually even private dentists receive a small nhs budget to treat kids
Meaning that under 18’s have free dental treatment
It’s generally this across the board

We couldn't find an NHS dentist when we moved so we have to pay private for our DC. The dentist takes the piss a bit too: he asked DD is she wanted him to pull out her wobbly tooth, she said yes and he added £50 to the bill, it would have fallen out in a day or two!
