How to save my favourite scarf from the scrap pile

Hi, I'm hoping there are some knowledgeable people out there who can advise me.

My favourite cashmere scarf which has the same tiny fringing at each end similar to the one in the link above has been attacked by moths. If I cut 4" off the end, how would I go about creating the fringe effect? I have started cutting and it's a clean edge. The fringe is only about a cm or 2.
Is it something a dressmaker could do for me or could I do it myself? It's a fine knit scarf.
Hope someone can help! I don't mind paying to have it done.

sew a line across the scarf the length of the fringe away from the end. I think it would need to be quite small stitches. then pull out the threads that go across. what is the other end of the scarf, how is that stopped from fraying?

@BlackeyedSusan thank you so much for posting and my apologies for not checking in sooner. I will attach a photo of my scarf (the undamaged end) as it doesn't have anything to stop fraying yet seems very secure.

the thing stopping it fraying is the seam up the sides... at a best guess. In which case, I would put a few anchoring stitches in the end of each seam on the newly cut end. you will have cut off the backwards forwards stiches done with the sewing machine... the zigzag stitching up the side might unravel if you just look at it a bit funny if not.

Thank you so much! I will give that a go or, if I don't feel confident, I will try to find a seamstress who may be able to do it for me. Thanks again for taking the time to help.
