Mental recovery advice after witnessing accident

My boyfriend and I witnessed an accident at the weekend whilst out walking. We were first on scene and dealt with the casualty who was seriously injured until emergency services, mountain rescue, air ambulance arrived etc. Casualty will be ok after a hospital stay but could be life changing injuries. Struggling to process it at the moment. I’m not upset about it, but when we were walking home it felt like we were both on speed or something; I know it was a whole rush of adrenaline immediately afterwards, but I thought that would have subsided by now. Am struggling to concentrate and not sleeping, and keep turning it over in my head. Emergency services said we did a great job, so I’m content that we couldn’t have done any more, but it’s more a “what if we hadn’t seen it” or “what if we hadn’t found him”. Are there any emergency services personnel who could give me advice on how to slow my mind down and get back to normal?

Not emergency services but I do know some tips for this. Have a look at grounding techniques anything that brings you into the present moment. Be kind to yourself, you have experienced a traumatic event and what you are experiencing makes sense. Hope the grounding helps
