Balance bike for small toddler

Wondering if anyone could recommend a balance bike for my nearly 2 year old. Trying to get organised for her birthday next month- the only problem is she’s very small for her age. Currently in 9-12 months clothes and based on previous growth trends will likely be in them for a while! Not prem, just born small and continued that way.
Thanks I’m advance!

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a balance bike for your child, we’ve recently updated our best balance bikes page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

We got a balance bike with 10 inch wheels from halfords when mine was about 18 month. I think it was the smallest we could find anywhere. Mostly they seem to have 12-14 inch wheels which was much too big for him at the time.

Only cost abour £30 at the time too and its been used to death

We had a fairly heavy one for our eldest, with a metal frame, which was tiny but heavy. Can't remember the make. Maybe stompee?

For our youngest who is dinky also, and not as strong, we find she can straddle the stompee (or whatever the metal one is), but she can't support it, so we got her a secondhand wooden one. It's much lighter and easier to manoeuvre. I wish I'd got it for my eldest tbh, though she was small and strong.

The indy. Almost indestructable and you can raise and lower the seat as she gets bigger but they generally find it easier the lower the seat is when starting out

Puky bikes are good but I think their smallest is for a child around 85cm.

We had an isla bike one for DC it's so lightweight

Boringnamechanging · 24/02/2021 19:53

To be honest at that small you're going to struggle with height. My 75 percentile 2 year old girl is just fitting the Isla bike Rothan.

Vitus Nippy. It has 10" wheels and it's the lightest on the market at just 1.9kg. It's £45 which is good value for such a light bike IMO. Check your DD's inside leg measurement, the Nippy's saddle height is 31-38cm.

If she stands up, what is the distance from the floor to her crotch? That is the height the saddle needs to go down to.
Puky used to be the smallest. I dont know current brands tho.
We've always gone for better brands but second hand.

Frog are supposed to be a good make and they do one called the tadpole mini

mum0fone · 24/02/2021 20:15

I actually have no idea of her height - is that terrible?! Blush I’ll measure tomorrow but thank you all for your suggestions!

Strider bikes are fab and the seats go really low. Also super light and easy to carry really recommend.

NameChange30 · 24/02/2021 20:59

This is a really useful list of the options, although it doesn't mention the Vitus Nippy which I think is also worth considering (depending on DD's height/inside leg measurement)
