First experience of school hols so I don't know if this is normal or because covid... Have been pottering online trying to find a self catering stay near a beach in August, and they're all gone Shock

We've booked in Pembrokeshire. There were plenty left

Whitby is beautiful OP. And do the best fish & chips in the world. So much to do for all ages.

@daisy829
I know you have already had some ideas from a previous poster but it depends where you are staying. We like it really quiet and chill so we walked from a bay just further North to Bamburgh along the beach. It was so beautiful! Holy Island is spectacular...you can easily spend a day nosing around. We walked from crashed to dunstamburgh castle. I've heard amazing things about Alnwick castle and gardens and also cragside. We are going to try and visit this year. You can go on a day trip to Edinburgh and The museum of Scotland is free and so is going up Arthur's Seat. There is a treasure hunt for the Quayside in Newcastle you can download. I liked the bit of Hadrian's Wall near Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. I'd have loved to go on a walk around there. I've also heard Ford and Etal is a great day out. We found Kielder water a long drive with not too much to do.

@Indecisivelurcher look at Wells, it's a lovely little place although gets very busy in summer. This holiday park always looks nice when I walk past www.pinewoods.co.uk/ albeit expensive I think. Cromer is nice but is the epicentre of North Norfolk tourist destinations... I avoid it during summer months!

For little kids, Gorleston is nice with a little amusement bit and a lovely beach. It's probably less well known and, being next to great Yarmouth, less desirable. Not sure about accommodation but the cliff hotel does great Sunday carvery Grin

Have you looked at Heacham? It’s great for birds, has a big sandy beach and a pub.

Also, look at your DC’s inset days at the end of the summer holiday which might get you an extra week of availability.
