here
I'm so pleased for her that A) her sister is out of hospital and B) the government have agreed to vaccinate people with Learning disabilities now.
My son is profoundly deaf and autistic and he thanks to his amazing doctors surgery had his vaccination two weeks ago.
Sadly one of his FB friends decided to be really unkind and gave him a really hard time about it because he had had the jab ahead of her! He deleted all her comments and she then defriended him.
I found her on Messenger and absolutely ripped into her..
His surgery is so nice. He knows everyone there and as he doesnt like needles the receptionist held his hand!

It’s great news.
I’m a carer for ds6 who has ASC and LD and I get my Carers vaccine on Saturday.

Samcro · 24/02/2021 17:09

Im a bit sad that it wasn't done sooner.
My dd had hers weeks ago, the most vulnerable were supposed to be a priority.
Well done your son for binning the person.

imonyourway · 24/02/2021 17:12

I listened to her show last night and she spoke so warmly about her sister, the care she had received and the support from the public. I'm so pleased she's out of the worst phase.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 24/02/2021 17:21

Well I for one am delighted he was cared for in all senses of the word by his surgery.

People needing their vaccination more swiftly come in all shapes and forms.

As long as those classed as more vulnerable than me have plans in place to be vaccinated promptly, then I could not be happier.

Good on him for getting rid of this ‘friend’.

minniemoocher · 24/02/2021 17:39

Still waiting here, dp's dd lives with live in carers, my dd is cv but the website isn't letting us book. My gp is trying to get notes from her gp to no avail (university hasn't gone back of course!)

Elderflower14 · 24/02/2021 23:22

Yes we are very lucky with his surgery. There were two options either a huge building on an industrial estate with people he didn't know or his local surgery. I live on the other side of the country and have become an expert parachute parent in the last few years..
I posted on his local FB page and asked for advice.. Several people who knew him offered to drive him to the bigger place if necessary. One twonk said he should go where's he sent and be grateful!!! 🤔 🤔 🤔
I then had three message requests. One from a lady offering to drive him. One from the practise manager at the surgery saying she'd make sure he was inoculated at the surgery and one from the lovely receptionist saying she'd make sure he was inoculated at the surgery!! He's a very lucky and blessed young man. The surgery always arrange an interpreter for him... Unlike his dental practice who said "We don't do interpreters here!!"
By the time I got the local health authority involved the dental surgery soon saw the error of their ways. People are on a waiting list to get into the doctors surgery he uses..!

She is brilliant! What a lovely relationship she has with her sister Smile

Jo W is also ambassador for the charity Sibs, which supports siblings of those with learning disabilities.

It's fab that they have prioritised..finally...wrong that it took a DJ to make it happen (good for her tho!)
I'm in Oxfordshire and our county already took the decision to vaccinate people with LDs. My son (ASD , LDs and Ulcerative Colitis) was vaccinated yesterday and I'm very grateful!

(He's not... had the AZ jab same as me and he's currently very poorly from it, but he will perk up soon)

Ds2 had AZ and felt a bit poorly for a couple of days... He's so looking forward to coming home when he can. He's done lockdown on his own plus birthday and Christmas... 😔

@StillMedusa...Did he have the jab 'in town' ? I'm due mine tomorrow and by the questions they asked it sounded like it could be PFizer but not sure if that place can carry it..

I'm not too bothered either way, so I am going to get some paracetomol in case it knocks me for six. Optician I spoke to hade hers and said she had the headache form hell for two days

Swipeleftagain · 25/02/2021 12:10

I'm not a massive fan of Jo Whiley in general but in this instance I'm with her and I'm very glad it's worked out. But why does it need a high profile celebrity to draw attention for things to change? I'm sure many lesser known people have made the same point but their voices don't get heard.

NoSquirrels · 25/02/2021 12:13

I am really pleased they've prioritised the vaccine for those with LDs, and I am really glad your DS had his.

However

I found her on Messenger and absolutely ripped into her.

That's not cool. She defriended him, that's his battle not yours. I understand you feel protective but direct your support to boosting him in how to deal with these things, not laying into other young people over social media. There's a thin line between 'giving your opinion' and bullying, and tracking down someone else's FB friends to 'rip into them' is not on.

She was friends with me and defriended me too. She was unpleasant enough to him to make him tearful. I felt I needed to let rip.
