Is climate change going to ruins my childrens lives?

I honestly sometimes worry that I shouldn't of bought kids into this world. I'm petrified that shit will really hit the fan and my children will really suffer from climate change and it's impacts.

I think humankind will carry on as it is until we kill ourselves off, we just won't change. As sad as that is. I guess even this thought is selfish but I just want my kids to live a normal happy life and not suffer, and be killed by climate change.

Or is it just too late? Are we the last generation to not be heavily affected?

I guess where does it end. I desperately want my children to be ok. But then their future children. And their children's future children.

It all just makes me so sad. Why won't we just change.

My dad felt like HE was the last unaffected generation and he's 80 so I do my best to minimise our families impact and I teach my DC about the environment. I do worry about it but its done and I want my DC to help change the world for the better - you do what you can and enjoy life. What else can you do?

I think it’s the mass migration as a result of climate change that will cause real chaos. Entire nations will need to relocation, nations that have weapons. We’re fucked, basically, and I don’t think there’s anything anyone can do about it.

emilyfrost · 24/02/2021 13:10

Christ no, don’t be so overdramatic Hmm It’s not going to significantly affect them at all let alone “ruin their lives”.

I think you need help for your anxiety.

I think you are the one that needs help.

If your anxiety / mental health is this affected op you should probably consider speaking to your gp for some support.

World population is expected to stabilise in most regions within the next 30 years then decline in about 40 years.

Humanity will escape extinction, but there will be some tough times yet. Strangely, those being born now or tomorrow will adapt more easily than those in their 20's, 30's and 40's today who will experience the most change to their lifestyles. People who can learn to live with less will suffer less.

You'll be fine in the UK. Just don't move to a coastal area and choose higher ground.

Take action. Action is hope. I feel better when I get involved with green politics but you might feel better doing other things- lobbying, gardening, growing, making savings on heating, changing your boiler, electric car etc etc
Loads you can do but the big stuff is up to governments. Humans will get there, hydrocarbon will save us i think....but millions of lives and species will be lost due to government complacence and ecocide.

tormentil · 24/02/2021 15:12

This thread is tragic.
Do you not realise that all the threats have been exaggerated to push compliance with very restrictive policies? Policies that really are going to change our children's lives.
I agree in living in harmony with the earth, but think that the changes directed by governments are not what they seem.
Humanity is wonderful! I love that people are capable of great innovation and adaptability. I love reading about technological innovation that has been inspired by people who want our impact on the environment to be less.
Celebrate our humanity!

ReluctantWitness · 24/02/2021 16:25

tormentil, it would be astonishing if no-one every skewed their results or exagerrated their claims. Also, of course science is political. so you are right to that extent.

But the odd case of someone being selective with their data here or there is a bit like scaremongering about Covid - it's the sort of equivalent of those newspaper reports about children hospitalised with Covid - it doesn't mean Covid doesn't exist just because one particular point gets laboured.

I wish you were right though, I really do.

FlyNow · 24/02/2021 19:52

You'll be fine in the UK. Just don't move to a coastal area and choose higher ground.

Do you think everyone that does live near the coast will just say "oh well" and go down with the ship? Or do you think they will leave and go elsewhere? Like the UK. Whole cities of millions will disappear. It will make the current refugee crisis pale in to insignificance.

NoMackerelInSwindon · 24/02/2021 20:00

It will make the current refugee crisis pale in to insignificance.

The population of the Southern Hemisphere will migrate to the Northern Hemisphere. Those below the latitude of North Carolina will migrate further North.

It is happening now is it not? Look at the news.
