Contact your council

VettiyaIruken · 22/02/2021 10:51

If you have a blue badge you can apply for one, not sure of the cost.

VettiyaIruken · 22/02/2021 10:52

Since not if

extentioncord · 22/02/2021 10:55

Be aware of you have a space painted the other person in your street with a BB will be able to use it, as would anyone else with a BB.

extentioncord · 22/02/2021 10:56

You are allowed to park on double yellows though?

Snowymcsnowsony · 22/02/2021 10:56

Beware they can say no. My friend sold his car and is housebound now. Council refused him a space... Very sad.

Rillington · 22/02/2021 10:57

Contact your local council. Hopefully yours will be more helpful than ours. My Dad qualifies but they keep changing the criteria. We have had to get our MP involved. If there are double yellow lines then I very much doubt you will be allowed one.

Theodoreb · 22/02/2021 11:05

Right thanks for all the information I'm aware the other person can use it I don't mind that, yes I can park on double yellows but only for two hours.

Contact council. But If it's double yellows they'll likely refuse, also they can charge you for applying which can be a lot of money and still refuse. Important to remember it wouldn't just be for you and could be for any time limit e.g. There's one by me which is 30 minutes only no return within three hours and it's heavily monitored (because the council want to get rid of it now since the organisation has moved!).

Have a good think about this before doing it, lot of research.

Becca19962014 · 22/02/2021 11:10

Blue badge spaces aren't automatically 3 hours.
That's a misconception.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise, it's unrestricted here.
bababra · 22/02/2021 11:15

Not all councils allow them, ours doesn't have any at all. If you are allowed, you need to apply via the council website.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/02/2021 12:32

Sadly, if there are double yellows there, I doubt that they would be willing to allow a parking bay - whether for a disabled or able-bodied person.

Of course, it depends on whether the double yellows are there because it's simply dangerous to park there or just to avoid a big bottleneck on a busy road with cars parked in a continuous mile-long line blocking one side. I know others may disagree, but I have my strong suspicions that councils often deliberately put double yellows down on roads near their own pay car parks - no doubt they claim it's to 'ease the access route' to the car park, but revenues might just come into it somewhere too....

However, I think if you are going to apply, your best bet would be to get together with the other disabled resident and submit a joint or 'mirror' applications at the same time. If the council does rule it safe to put in a disabled space, I'd have thought they wouldn't object to two of them. The request may possibly also carry more weight if there is identified a need for disabled parking for residents as opposed to a space for a disabled resident, if that makes sense.

The last thing you want is for them to instal just one space and both of you becoming constant competitors for it, with the 'loser' feeling aggrieved. You don't want to become 'enemies' through the fault of neither of you, when as neighbours sharing similar needs, you should be united.

Theodoreb · 22/02/2021 20:24

After reading your posts I'm thinking of not trying for one and just using my two hours parking on double yellows it won't cause congestion it used to have no yellow lines but then a lot of cars parked there they still do but parking wardens come up once a week but you never know what day

You have nothing to lose by applying. They don't charge anything where I live. They just seem very reluctant to allow them.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 23/02/2021 00:04

It varies massively by council. We have a dedicated disabled bay outside our house, linked to my daughter’s blue badge. In the next borough along, they don’t allocate bays to individual permit holders. We had no problem getting ours and it was a token admin fee.

Davros · 23/02/2021 00:07

It can be designated to a specific badge, not open for all blue badge holders. Good luck

Becca19962014 · 23/02/2021 01:30

I think the important thing is to research your area OP. It varies hugely as to what they can, or cannot, put in place.

I have never seen a private BB space. Ever.

billyt · 23/02/2021 09:35

Seen quite a few. I seem to recall a couple around Chelsea.

Parking sign has vehicle registration on if I recall.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 24/02/2021 23:47

As I said above, we have a dedicated BB space. It varies from LA to LA.
