Haemorrhoids

Probably a silly question, but I’m getting a hemorrhoidectomy and I’m conscious about how naked I’ll be. Is it just from the waist down? Any females out there that can advise me on what to expect?

I would assume this is done under a General Anaesthetic, and as a result would expect to be asked to remove all clothing top and bottom and swap it out for a hospital gown for the procedure. When you get there they will likely give you a private area (changing room with a lock or your bay with curtains drawn) to remove your own clothing, place it into a bag, and place the hospital gown on- one sleeves first (gap at the back) and then a second as a sort of dressing gown for modesty which will be lifted for access as required during surgery.

You'll mostly likely be in the same state of dress when you wake up, albeit in bed with a blanket on until you recover from the GA and will be asked to change back before having something to eat/drink, your obs taken and waiting for someone pick you up to go home and rest.

It's possible (depending on the extent of the issue and the procedure) that a nurse may check for bleeding after the procedure. This will usually involve rolling on your side and they will discreetly lift the hospital gown at the back to do this before replacing.

I've not had the exact procedure but have had many gynae and rectal procedures and all have been similar. Never once have I felt uncomfortable and the nurses are extremely quick and professional if there is a cause to examine any private area. You will never be unattended during an operation so there is no scope for anything even slightly untoward to happen.

Any concerns you will get the chance to discuss them before you go in. Good luck OP and wishing you a speedy recovery. I'm sure it will be so worth it and you will be absolutely fine Flowers

Thank you so much!

That is the most thought through, gentlest and sweetest reply I’ve received.

I actually work in healthcare, although I’ve never had surgery before and I’m extremely self-conscious. I don’t like the thought of being overly exposed in front of strangers.

Plus, I hate shaving! With lockdown restrictions and all I can’t book for a wax appointment. I just fear the judgement haha
