How can I get fit when I hate exercise?

I'm bored of walking, I love running but am injured. I hate yoga, pilates, exercise classes, weights, everything really.
I feel so self conscious exercising at home with family all around. Generally I have no me time and would love some.
I'm also very lazy and happily sit around on my arse all day!
I always have excuses but I'm so unfit.
I start things and get bored, I've got a rowing machine which is fine but so boring, same with exercise bike.

Snap! But I force myself. On the treadmill every day and have zoom pilates (only exercise I don't mind) and PT twice a week. I hate every single second (except pilates, which I can tolerate).

Well done. Do you run or walk on the treadmill? I used to run but got injured so stopped years ago. Running was only exercise I loved.

Is PT virtual?

You’re unfit because you’re a self-admitted lazy-arse.
It’s generally accepted that being more active leads to being even more active. You’ve just got to find a way to move more.
You need to find something you like. Dancing?

WeAreJackieWeaver · 21/02/2021 21:49

Have you thought of cycling? It’s loads of fun and I love the sense of freedom it gives me.

cheeseisthebest · 21/02/2021 21:51

I do like cycling. Need to get my bike sorted. Very flooded by us but when that improves cycling is a good idea.

I think I do want to do something on my own away from my house!

Cycling is the only thing that works for me. I hate exercising indoors - it feels so repetitive and pointless. But I've loved exploring my local area on my bike. I've drawn a lovely map on Strava using the heat map function.

Haha yes!! Would love to do dancing but have teenagers who would laugh their heads off!

I'm a total lazy arse couch potato. But the lockdown has forced my hand. Only since this time last week, but I was on the verge of cracking . I've walked twice a day since and can already feel a difference in my mood. So if you can't run, could you walk? I stick the headphones in and get some head space its amazing after just one week.

redferrari · 21/02/2021 22:28

I watch something on the iPad while walking on my treadmill. I download 30 mins episodes to keep me going.
But a good PT really helps, I had a great trainer twice a week 1-1 but I can't afford now as I have been made redundant.

cheeseisthebest · 22/02/2021 12:31

No I couldnt afford a PT either. Would be great though!

I’m the same.

I love swimming but it’s a faff going to a pool, and I don’t know how effective it might be for dealing with my lockdowns rolls of fat round my middle anyway. I was thin once...

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 22/02/2021 13:00

Zumba is good. Shut the door, so the family can’t see you.

NotWithMyShoes · 22/02/2021 13:05

Have you looked at something like Kinomap? It's got loads of routes uploaded by other users and you can "follow" the route cycling/rowing/running from your equipment at home. Much more motivating than watching tv/reading whilst exercising.

HauntedDishcloth · 22/02/2021 13:16

Look around & find classes or private gyms/fitness studios when lockdown is over. Gyms often have small groups led by personal trainers so cheaper than individual sessions. They're not all super fit bootcamp type ones. When I started going to mine for a 6week trial I told the trainer I hated exercise & was very stubborn about not doing stuff I didn't want to do. It took me a while to get used to going & I sort of grew to like it as I realised I felt better physically & mentally for doing it than not. Because it's like an appointment I was more likely to go to the sessions & it was easier to go than invent excuses. I've done zoom sessions with the same trainer in lockdown which are surprisingly effective but not as good as I got to like the social element too even though I'm extremely antisocial normally.

Cycling would be a good option if you like it but would you keep it up if it was just up to you whether you went out or not? I wouldn't!

AngryPrincess · 22/02/2021 18:23

Do you like dancing?

cheeseisthebest · 25/02/2021 20:37

I'm a terrible dancer!!
