Tenth anniversary gift - in need of suggestions!

DH and I will have been married 10 years in the spring. If it wasn’t for the pandemic and travel band we would almost certainly be getting the grandparents to look after the kids so we could go away somewhere for a few days, but that’s not going to happen any time soon.

I don’t want to be last minute about a gift, especially given it’s a ‘milestone’ anniversary this year. But he’s hard to buy for. He’s not very materialistic, and buys what he wants/needs for himself. He doesn’t have any big hobbies I could use for inspiration, and he’s not good with experience type gifts because he never bothers to actually sort things out and book them in (and it’s not like I can just arrange things for him at the moment given the uncertainty - it would have to be a ‘voucher’ for any experience and I know he would be unlikely to follow it through). He’s very into beer and whisky but I have done both of those for gifts before. He likes sport (football, rugby, cricket, F1). Works in finance. We live in the NW.

He also doesn’t wear any jewellery aside from his wedding ring. He has a nice watch that he doesn’t even wear now, he just uses his Fitbit. And he’s not much into keepsakes or anything twee either.

So I just don’t know what to do. Please send inspiration!

My husband is impossible to buy for and the house is littered with unopened, unused gifts. However, he loves his bat detector. Its only a basic one (about £100) but for £500 you can buy one that links to the iPad and tells you what bats it is picking up. My husband has had to learn the different calls.
The only other successful gift was an indoor/outdoor thermometer. It has a gadget outside that picks up the temperature etc but an indoor monitor which gives you the information.
If he likes the Fitbit, how about an Apple Watch or Garmin?
If he has a favourite team, it is possible to arrange for him to have a tour of their stadium and I think they now do special match days where he can have lunch, sit in the director’s box and meet some of the former players.
I would be interested to hear what you decide on because it is my husband’s birthday soon and I am at a loss. Oh, for our 50th wedding anniversary he asked for good quality wellies and a boot bag!

A bat detector?? Well there is something I’ve never heard of! I knew the mumsnet hive mind was the place to come for inspiration 😂

Stadium tours are all cancelled at the moment but it was something I was thinking about. He’s a Spurs fan and is very keen to go to their new stadium so in normal times I would probably be throwing money at that. But lord knows when fans will be allowed back in (maybe Boris will tell me tomorrow 😏).

Will have a look at an Apple Watch. He has an old Garmin but he’s not really running much at the moment.

I bought my dh a Samsung smart watch and he bought me an eternity ring. We also had a long weekend away

I didn't know a 10 year anniversary was a particular thing, just order a nice takeaway and go away when you can.

NoMoreMuchin · 21/02/2021 10:01

Ten years is supposed to be tin, so I got DH ten Tins, 9 were jokey things about him like a fry bentos pie tin from the time he blew the oven door off as a drunk student not realising you had to open the tin before heating, and the tenth tin had a naice watch in it

Get a nice afternoon tea delivered to your home, serve tea in fancy China and enjoy a glass of your fave drink together. Make it an occasion, rather than a gift.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 21/02/2021 12:33

I got my OH an XL ‘man tin’ from The Bright Side and filled it with ten items (mostly functional):
Fisher bullet space pen
Bluetooth shower speaker
Insulated beer sleeve
Steak knives
Pizza cutter
Muscle balm
Touch screen thermal gloves
Liqueur chocolates
Beef biltong

Honestly can’t remember the last item. Perhaps it was the tin itself.

If we were able to travel we would make it an occasion rather than gift! We will do something to mark it like have a nice dinner but I am looking for gift ideas too.

I also did a tin for my exh. Filled it with ten gifts ranging from a print of the first photo we had to his favourite sweets. Nothing expensive

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 21/02/2021 14:41

Is he into the weather? Lots of men I know seem to be really interested in the weather and weather gadgets.
My DH bought himself a Hermes Apple Watch recently and loves it.

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 21/02/2021 14:43

Does he like to read? Would he like a collection of books such as The Everyman series?

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 21/02/2021 14:44

Or a very posh whiskey?

He does like to read but buys everything on his kindle. We already have too many books in the house as it is when storage space is at a premium!

I bought DH cuff links in the shape of tin cans, from a tin mine. He’s not into key issues, jewellery etc but he dies have a couple of shirts that need cuff links.

Twinkie01 · 21/02/2021 16:24

You can climb the spurs stadium I think. Friend did it with her husband. It's called The Dare Skywalk.

BikeRunSki · 21/02/2021 16:26
  • from previous post “key issues” should be “keep sakes”!

Google Wordart. It is like word clouds but you pick a shape I.e. a number 10 and submit a list of words and phrases. The number is then made of these words.

DH did this for our 10th and I love it. It has every address we have ever lived, funny things our kids have said and lots of in-jokes that only mean something to us.

It came in a simple frame and every time I look at it I notice something new

Crackerofdoom · 21/02/2021 18:52

You can also get blueprints for stadia which are really cool and interesting. DH is a Cubs fan and I got him one of Wrigley Field which he loved
