Any police officers?

I'm a bit unnerved
Police have been at an address nearby for several hours. Cid knocked asking if we saw or heard anything in the night and stated there was a serious incident. Scenes of crime have arrived. The person at the address is alive.
What kind of incident may this indicate?
The officer indicated someone was in custody so why the door to door enquiries?
Thanks

They're looking for witnesses. They must think you're not at risk at all so try not to worry.

catherineofarrogance80 · 20/02/2021 11:56

That's good
This is such a quiet area
I hope the woman is okay she's very sweet and quiet

They will want to find witnesses as catherine said and also gather any CCTV evidence from anyone who has a camera.

What would they class as a serious incident?

They're asking for information or witnesses to a serious incident....why do you need to know what it is?

Violetroselily · 20/02/2021 12:49

Could be all sorts, surely. Why do you need to know?

catherineofarrogance80 · 20/02/2021 13:04

Errr because I'm worried about someone's wellbeing?

OP posts:
catherineofarrogance80 · 20/02/2021 13:04

And I have no idea what would be classes as a serious incident or a routine incident

If she wants to tell you what happened in the future I'm sure she will, until then you'll just need to accept that she has a right to her privacy.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 20/02/2021 13:22

Surely given the circumstances you can work out for yourself what it might be. If someone's in custody that suggests it was an isolated incident.

SparkysMagicPiano · 20/02/2021 15:03

To verify/disprove what the person in custody has said.

The police are on scene, a person has been detained. Why do you need to worry about someone's wellbeing? They are clearly being taken care of.

If you, or someone you know was involved in a serious incident which required police and resulted in an arrest, would you be happy if the police went and told all the neighbours exactly what happened?

And I have no idea what would be classes as a serious incident or a routine incident

Well, you don't really need to know this do you?

sporky · 20/02/2021 18:54

I'm sure you can have some imagination as to what a "serious incident" might be.

Jjacobb · 20/02/2021 19:54

The same happened to my family last year. I won't say what the "serious incident" was but what made a horrible time so much worse was all the internet speculation. Neighbours were posting pictures of the police activity on Facebook. I was getting messages asking what was going on in the Street. Relatives who live hundreds of miles away heard via SM that something was going on.
Someone is maybe going through the worst experience of their life, my advice would be to mind your own business and stop speculating.

catherineofarrogance80 · 20/02/2021 21:43

@Jjacobb I would never gawp or post pictures or spread gossip. Just hoping someone could give some examples of things that are maybe not terrible for a person as I'm just concerned

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 20/02/2021 21:45

We could give examples of what it might be but how does that help? It would just be speculation.

BananaPop2020 · 20/02/2021 21:45

This is pure nosiness

FAQs · 20/02/2021 21:46

Why would you want examples of scenarios, bloody hell.

toocold54 · 20/02/2021 22:48

If someone knocked on my door saying a neighbour had been involved in a serious incident then I’d be worried for my safety/their safety and would want to know too!
However I agree with the PP that it wouldn’t do much good knowing anyway as there could be loads of different things that it could be.

doctorhamster · 20/02/2021 22:51

Try minding your own business Confused

mootymoo · 20/02/2021 22:54

The only experience I've had when the police knocked on my door, the upshot was that the son had been released from prison on a tag to stay with his parents and his mum found him cutting it off (a good number of years ago, the technology might have improved), anyway she told him she would call the police and he attacked her so badly she needed hospitalisation (the dad returned in the nick of time my nosy neighbour told me). So that's an example of a serious incident when the perpetrator is known to the victim. Domestic violence of some description is most likely

typicalvalues · 20/02/2021 22:54

GBH? Aggravated burglary? DV?
Could be anything, but if they have cordoned off the area rather than just the house, then fuck knows - could be anything.
I get the idle curiosity but I personally hate when gawpers were out whenever I was in a crisis. I'm the first to curtain twitch myself. Just human nature.

typicalvalues · 20/02/2021 22:55

@FAQs

Why would you want examples of scenarios, bloody hell.
Just simple idle curiosity. Not too hard to imagine.
bonfireheart · 21/02/2021 01:07
  1. You are safe and not in danger
  2. Person at address is now safe and presumably out of danger
  3. Police are on scene
  4. Suspect is in custody
So nothing to worry about :)

But you kind of are though....

typicalvalues · 21/02/2021 02:16

Well anyone with a brain cell would want to know what's going on!
