Is it going to be tough?

Got all prepared this morning and got a lovely beef stew in the oven on low.

One of my little blessings (is it too early for wine?) has turned the oven up high and I’ve only just noticed, so it’s been like that for probably an hour. Is it’s salvageable or do I need to throw it out?

I had visions of melt in the mouth beef, even added pearl barley, and can’t face tough as a bullet beef stew.

And the three year old is fine, he’s now living in a cupboard under the stairs (#lightheartedbeforesomeonereportsme)

It should be fine if you leave it on the lowest temp possible for a good few hours.
I've done it loads of times never had rock hard beef.
And no not to early for wine lol

Buy a slow cooker - they’re about £8

But yes it’ll be fine for later

Thanks. Phew, what a relief!

Cracking open the Prosecco as we speak!

Thanks. I do have a couple of slow cookers, but can’t get to grips with it, it always seems a bit watery, but grateful for any tips or advice.

For a slow cooker I half the amount of liquid and use more herbs or spices - the long cooking can dull the flavours. I also add some fresh herbs at the end to lift the flavours a bit.

Your casserole will be fine if you turn it down and check the liquid levels to check it doesn’t dry out.

Yeah it's going to be fine if you have it tonight- just turn it down low now, but honestly it will be great tomorrow

@Thebeefstew

I always add a bit of cornflour a couple of hours before it's ready to eat if it's a bit watery.
Enjoy the prosecco

Just rescued the stew from the oven. I could cut the beef with a spoon.

Thanks for the tips, following these I’m going to chuck it in the fridge and have it tomorrow with the expectation that it will be even more improved!

There are packets of powered ‘stew’ mix for slow cookers

Plus add cornflour before serving to reduce the liquid.

I usually do mash instead of potatoes in the pot - always turns out yummy
